Since its inaugural edition in 1954, EXTEMIN Perumin (Peru Mining & Construction Machinery Exhibition) has grown into one of the largest mining exhibitions in Latin America. Held in Arequipa, a major southern industrial city and Peru's second-largest city located in a key mining region, the event runs concurrently with the Peru International Prospecting Exhibition and Mining Resources Symposium. The exhibition receives strong support from Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines, and is co-organized by the Peruvian Mining Association and the Machinery & Equipment Association. Each edition of EXTEMIN Perumin attracts and invites mining technical and management professionals from Peru, Latin America, Asia, and Europe. Beyond academic and technical exchanges, the professional buyers invited by the organizers ensure strong trade outcomes. In past editions, countries such as the United States, Canada, and Germany have participated as national pavilions.

Located in the mineral-rich Andean mining belt, Peru is one of the world's leading mineral resource countries. It ranks 4th globally in arsenic production, 3rd in bismuth, 3rd in copper (after Chile and the US), 5th in gold, 1st in silver, and ranks among the top producers of lead, zinc, and tin. Mining is Peru's most vital economic sector, accounting for approximately 20% of its GDP. In recent years, the privatization of 220 state-owned large-scale mining enterprises has laid a solid foundation for the industry's development.

The previous edition of EXTEMIN Perumin covered a total exhibition area of 140,000 square meters, featuring 803 exhibitors from China, the United States, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Australia, India, Russia, and other countries, with over 85,000 attendees.

China is Peru's largest trading partner and primary buyer of mineral resources. In 2015, Chinese mining giant MMG Limited acquired the Las Bambas copper mine, one of the world's largest copper mines under construction at the time, which will significantly drive Chinese mining equipment enterprises to explore the Peruvian market. EXTEMIN Perumin serves as the premier trade platform for Chinese mining companies to enter Latin America.
