The Shanghai International Urban & Architectural Exhibition (shortened to Urban Expo), is one of the key thematic events marking “World Cities Day.” It is co‑organized by UN‑Habitat, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban–Rural Development, the China Urban Planning Association, and the Architectural Society of China. Since its inception in 2015, it has steadily evolved into an international platform for showcasing China’s achievements in new‑type urbanization, a venue for highlighting the progress of Yangtze River Delta integration, an experiential showcase of Shanghai’s urban development and social governance, and a high‑end forum fostering industry‑wide dialogue and collaboration.

At the previous edition, the Shanghai International Urban & Architectural Exhibition spanned a total area of 50,000 square meters, featuring nine thematic exhibition series, including “World Cities Day,” “Smart Cities,” “Construction Safety and Engineering Technologies,” “Urban Public Spaces,” “Old District Renovation and Green Building Materials,” “Ecological Protection,” and “Urban Lifelines.” Concurrently, the event hosted the main forum on “Integration and Application of Infrastructure for Yangtze River Delta Integration,” along with more than 30 ancillary forums, attracting professional audiences across all sectors and industries.

As one of the flagship activities commemorating “World Cities Day”—the first international day initiated by the Chinese government at the United Nations—the Shanghai International Urban & Architectural Exhibition has become a well‑established, recurring brand event. Aligned with Shanghai’s vision of becoming a world‑class global city, the exhibition continues to highlight both domestic and international advances in planning, construction, and urban management, while providing valuable insights to bolster Shanghai’s economic growth, cultural sophistication, and urban governance. It also serves as a premier platform for facilitating industry‑wide exchanges and partnerships.
