The Shanghai International City and Building Exhibition (referred to as: City Expo) is one of the important themed activities of the World Cities Day. Co-organized by UN-Habitat, the Shanghai Housing and Urban-Rural Development Commission, the Chinese Society of Urban Planning, and the Chinese Society of Architecture, it has gradually become an international platform for promoting the achievements of new urbanization construction in China, a display platform for the achievements of the Yangtze River Delta integration development, an experience platform for Shanghai urban construction and social governance level, and a high-end platform for industry and enterprise exchange and cooperation.

The last Shanghai International City and Building Exhibition covered an area of 50,000 square meters, featuring nine series exhibitions including the "World Cities Day" theme exhibition, "Smart City", "Construction Safety and Construction Technology", "Urban Public Space", "Renovation of Old Districts and Green Building Materials", "Ecological Environment", and "Urban Lifeline". It also hosted the main forum "Integration and Application Development of Infrastructure in the Yangtze River Delta" and over 30 series forums, covering professional audiences across all industries and sectors.

As one of the key activities of the World Cities Day, initiated by the Chinese government, the Shanghai International City and Building Exhibition has become a fixed brand activity. It aims to fully align with the goal of making Shanghai an outstanding global city, focusing on promoting the "Shanghai Service, Shanghai Manufacturing, Shanghai Shopping, Shanghai Culture" brands. It continues to showcase international and domestic urban planning and construction management levels and achievements, providing references for Shanghai's economic development, cultural quality, and urban governance improvement, and offering a high-end platform for industry and enterprise exchange and cooperation.
