The Russia Industrial and Energy Equipment Manufacturing Exhibition (RI-EXPO) is co-hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, the Russian Exhibition Foundation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the BRICS organization, and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Machinery Industry Branch. According to official data from the Chinese Customs General Administration, bilateral trade between Russia and China reached a record $190.271 billion in 2022, up 29.3% year-on-year. In the first half of 2023, Sino-Russian trade reached $114.5 billion, up 50.9% year-on-year, with China remaining Russia's largest trading partner for the 13th consecutive year. This year, Sino-Russian trade volume is expected to achieve the goal of $20 billion, and it may reach $25 billion in the future.

Russia is one of the world's largest energy exporters, and cooperation potential between China and Russia in the energy and industrial sectors is enormous. The advancement of cooperation in natural gas pipelines, oil projects, etc., has brought new development opportunities to Russia's energy industry. In recent years, the market share of Chinese products in the fields of oil and gas, machine tools, power, mining coal machinery equipment, industrial manufacturing equipment, chemical products, construction machinery and vehicles, and new energy industries has continued to increase.

Since the outbreak of the Ukraine conflict, a large number of Western companies have withdrawn from the Russian market due to sanctions, which presents unprecedented new opportunities for Chinese enterprises.
