Profile
Gamescom, the Cologne International Games Exhibition in Germany, is the world’s largest and most authoritative trade show for interactive entertainment. It is a major international event that brings together gaming hardware, software, information technology solutions and devices, as well as related media and services. As the world’s largest and most prestigious exhibition for interactive entertainment and an international trading platform for the computer games industry, Gamescom has, through its professional standards and increasingly comprehensive support services, not only delivered high-value experiences to visitors from around the globe but also reinforced its position as Europe’s premier business hub for the computer and electronics sectors.
This global gathering of the gaming industry has sent a strong signal: the sector is entering another phase of rapid growth. Gamescom will welcome over 1,600 exhibiting companies, with approximately two-thirds hailing from markets outside Germany. Among them, 947 game developers are participating, showcasing 815 distinct titles.
Of particular note is the scale of Chinese game publishers. According to publicly available data, more than 50 Chinese companies are exhibiting this year—some estimates even put the figure at over 70—accounting for nearly 10% of all exhibitors.
Leading Chinese firms such as Tencent, NetEase, and miHoYo are making their presence felt across the board. In terms of exhibition space, Tencent remains a key player among Chinese participants, with Level Infinite occupying a combined booth area exceeding 1,000 square meters. Titles like “Honor of Kings World,” “King’s Chess Universe,” “Arena of Valor,” and “Honor of Kings” are prominently featured, alongside other offerings including “Outbreak Evolution,” “Little People’s Kingdom,” and “Rock Kingdom.”
NetEase, meanwhile, presents a more diversified product lineup. “Seven Days’ War” and “Marvel Contest of Champions” continue to strengthen their international reach, while “Yanyun Sixteen Sounds” accelerates its global expansion. Meanwhile, titles such as “Sea of Oblivion” and “Infinity” are poised to play pivotal roles in the company’s next stage of internationalization.
miHoYo, too, is no longer simply bringing games to the show. “Genshin Impact,” “Honkai: Star Rail,” and “Zenless Zone Zero” maintain robust global user ecosystems, while new releases like “Starry Valley” and “Honkai: Enigmatic Spirits” are already capturing the attention of players worldwide.
In the past, China’s overseas expansion was largely driven by a handful of leading enterprises and established titles. Today, however, a growing cohort of mid-sized and smaller teams—equipped with strong R&D capabilities, creative vision, and global potential—are actively venturing into international markets. China’s gaming industry is transitioning from isolated breakthroughs to collective global outreach.
As an increasing number of Chinese games enter the global arena, backed by original intellectual property, mature distribution networks, and advanced industrial production standards, the significance of Gamescom is evolving. It is no longer merely a showcase for Chinese companies seeking to penetrate European markets; rather, it has become a concentrated review of the broader competitive landscape within the global gaming industry.
