Exhibitor Value of the Hong Kong Houseware Fair

  • The Hong Kong Houseware Fair—Hong Kong Home InStyle—is Asia’s largest and longest-running specialized trade show for household goods and home textiles. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, it has been held annually since its inception in 1987, earning widespread recognition as a leading indicator of trends in the Asian home products market and a strategic gateway for global companies seeking to expand into the Asia-Pacific region.Held concurrently with the Hong Kong Fashion Week at the same venue, the fair is an annual highlight of Asia’s creative capital. Following its 2024 upgrade and transformation, the Hong Kong International Home Textiles Show has been integrated into the event, creating a comprehensive platform that spans the entire home products and home textiles value chain.
  • The core value of exhibiting lies in its unparalleled reach across the Asian market and its highly concentrated pool of professional buyers.Hong Kong is a globally renowned hub for the trade of household goods and home textiles. In January–February 2024, the total export value of home products and home textiles increased by 16.7% and 19.3%, respectively, reaching HK$52.6 billion and HK$93 million. The 2024 edition brought together over 2,200 exhibitors from 17 countries and regions, attracting approximately 24,000 buyers from 100 countries and territories. Notable buyer delegations included fashion e‑commerce group Zalora, France’s Glop Studio, Turkey’s Carrefour, Brazil’s Hometeka do Brasil S/A, South Korea’s Hyundai Department Store, and Thailand’s The Mall Group, among others.
  • The fair establishes a one-stop commercial platform covering the entire home products and home textiles value chain.Exhibits range across all categories, including fashionable home accessories, home textiles, kitchen and diningware, home décor, pet supplies, baby products, and health and personal care items. For 2024, new zones such as “Home Textiles” and “Tasteful Home Textiles” were introduced, dedicated to uniquely designed home textile products. Meanwhile, the acclaimed “Cultural Creativity Experience Zone” gathered around 50 exhibitors and design brands from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, and other regions, showcasing designer brands and products characterized by cultural creativity and distinctive styles. Twelve national and regional pavilions were also set up, featuring participation from Mainland China, Taiwan, India, Japan, Thailand, and more.
  • The fair aligns with three major industry trends—eco‑friendly design, smart home technologies, and the silver economy—creating a showcase for innovative products and cutting-edge concepts. In response to the Hong Kong SAR Government’s “Plastic Reduction” initiative, the 2024 fair curated a selection of environmentally sustainable offerings, such as We Care tissue paper from Polish exhibitor Paw Sp. z o.o., made entirely from cellulose using recycled materials and dust-free Airlaid Paper, which is biodegradable and can be composted. Chinese exhibitor Ningbo Ucome Lighting presented its CORE series of LED lamps, combining lighting, floral arrangements, wine storage, and other multifunctional capabilities. Additionally, the 2025 edition will feature a “Senior‑Friendly Technology Living Pavilion,” addressing the growing demand in the silver economy; the Hong Kong Productivity Council will introduce mixed reality (MR) games designed to stimulate both muscle activity and cognitive function. Each year, the fair collaborates with the internationally recognized trend forecasting agency WGSN to establish a Trend Concept Zone, unveiling emerging home product trends.
  • For Chinese enterprises, this fair serves as a strategic gateway to international markets, facilitating connections with global resources and showcasing their innovative capabilities. The fair’s timing in late April dovetails perfectly with the Canton Fair schedule, enabling exhibitors and buyers to seamlessly access procurement opportunities in both venues. According to a 2024 survey, 64% of respondents anticipate sales growth over the next 12 to 24 months, with home products exhibitors particularly optimistic about the Middle East (89%), Mainland China (79%), and ASEAN (76%) markets. The Home InStyle Hong Kong 2024 was successfully held from April 20 to 23, 2024, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, this edition marked the inaugural event following the merger and upgrade of the Hong Kong Houseware Fair and the Hong Kong International Home Textiles Fair, signaling a new phase of development for the exhibition.

In terms of scale, the show spanned 59,776 square meters, bringing together 2,202 exhibitors from 17 countries and regions worldwide. Over the four-day duration, it attracted approximately 24,000 professional buyers from 100 countries and regions. The exhibition featured pavilions representing 12 countries and regions, including Mainland China, Taiwan, India, Japan, Thailand, and others. The HKTDC also organized around 130 overseas buyer delegations, drawing some 7,000 buyers to Hong Kong for sourcing and procurement.

This year’s show boasted numerous highlights, with the Cultural and Creative Experience Zone and the Trend Showcase emerging as central attractions. The acclaimed “Cultural and Creative Experience Zone” gathered approximately 50 exhibitors and design brands from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, and beyond, showcasing designer labels and products characterized by cultural creativity and distinctive aesthetics. In collaboration with global color authority PANTONE, the zone received curated color recommendations, while renowned art book publisher TASCHEN set up a Fashion & Lifestyle Library on-site. The Shanghai Industrial Design Association made its debut, presenting a selection of works from “Shanghai Design 100+”; meanwhile, Ibaraki, Aomori, and Yamagata prefectures in Japan exhibited traditional crafts such as kiln-fired ceramics, pottery, and lacquerware.

Green sustainability and smart home technologies were key themes of the exhibition. Hong Kong Sustainable Living Co., Ltd. introduced a foldable tableware set that can replace disposable utensils, securing an order for 10,000 sets worth US$136,500 during the event, primarily with German buyers. Polish exhibitor Paw Sp. z showcased We Care thin paper, crafted entirely from recycled materials and dust-free cellulose, which is biodegradable and compostable. Chinese exhibitor Ningbo Ucome Lighting unveiled its CORE series LED lights, combining illumination, floral arrangements, and wine storage into a single multifunctional product, reflecting the growing trend toward integrated, multi‑purpose designs. Pakistani exhibitor Essak & Sons Home Textiles presented high‑quality towels woven from 100% cotton, polyester‑cotton blends, and fine denier cotton duck, offering a soft, comfortable touch. Meanwhile, Hong Kong startup Film Players Limited developed an intelligent digital film that transforms conventional photographic film into a digital display medium, suitable for application on windows as an alternative to curtains and capable of displaying various types of information.

A rich array of concurrent events created a high‑level platform for industry exchange. Throughout the exhibition, numerous seminars, buyer forums, and trend‑launch events were held. WGSN experts unveiled the spring/summer 2024 home‑goods trends. An “International Gourmet Cooking Demonstration” featured renowned chefs preparing international dishes using innovative kitchenware, while a “Coffee Latte Art Performance” invited professional baristas to showcase their latte‑art skills live. Additionally, several sessions were dedicated to introducing start-ups, sharing insights into entrepreneurial strategies.

The professional audience was exceptionally strong, with an unprecedented level of international participation. The event drew professional buyers from 100 countries and regions worldwide, including prominent names such as Zalora, a leading fashion e‑commerce group; France’s Glop Studio; Turkey’s Carrefour; Brazil’s Hometeka do Brasil S/A; South Korea’s Hyundai Department Store; and Thailand’s The Mall Group. Indonesian buyer Mulianingsih plans to procure glass food containers and plastic crates totaling over US$400,000, having identified two suppliers through the Click2Match matchmaking platform. A Taiwanese exhibitor reported connecting with potential customers across more than 30 countries and estimating that these relationships could generate orders exceeding US$200,000.

The exhibition yielded impressive results and received enthusiastic industry feedback. An independent survey commissioned by the organizers polled approximately 740 exhibitors and buyers, revealing that over 60% (64%) anticipate sales growth within the next 12 to 24 months. Respondents from the home‑goods sector identified the Middle East (89%), Mainland China (79%), and ASEAN (76%) as offering the most promising market prospects. The exhibition adopted an “Exhibition Plus” hybrid online‑offline model, leveraging the Click2Match intelligent matchmaking platform to provide round‑the‑clock support for both buyers and sellers. Exhibiting companies generally praised the high quality of the professional audience, the clarity of purchasing objectives, and the significant effectiveness of on‑site business matching.

Attendees agreed that the Hong Kong Home InStyle not only serves as a premier platform for brand exposure and commercial networking but also functions as a pivotal hub for gaining insights into Asian home‑goods trends and exploring pathways toward green design and smart‑home transformation.
