The Exhibition Value of the Shanghai International Surfactants Expo
- The Shanghai International Surfactants and Detergents Expo (IESD) is the only specialized exhibition platform for surfactants and detergents in China and a leading industry event. Since its inception in 2010, it has been successfully held over ten editions and is widely recognized by the industry as the benchmark for the surfactant sector in East China and a strategic gateway for global companies seeking to enter the Chinese market.Co-organized by the China National Research Institute of Daily Chemical Industry and Shanghai Yihan Exhibition Service Co., Ltd., after more than a decade of dedicated cultivation, the expo has grown into one of the most influential industry events in China, serving as a central platform for connecting global resources across the surfactant value chain, showcasing cutting-edge technological advances, and driving trends toward sustainable development.
- The core value of participation lies in its unique ability to connect with 19 major application industries—including personal care, textiles, oilfields, and industrial cleaning—while concentrating a highly targeted pool of professional buyers. In 2025, the expo attracted 8,041 professional visitors from 53 countries and regions, with nearly 10% hailing from overseas. Over 90% of attendees held purchasing decision-making authority or were actively involved in such decisions. The audience included representatives from renowned domestic and international enterprises such as Henkel, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Liby, Blue Moon, Nais, Kao, L’Oréal, Shanghai Jahwa, Sinopec Lubricants, Daqing Oilfield, Foxconn, and Huawei, providing exhibitors with a strategic opportunity to engage directly with key global procurement decision-makers.
- The expo has established a one-stop commercial platform covering the entire surfactant industry chain.Exhibits span ionic, non-ionic, and amphoteric surfactants, next-generation green surfactants (including amino acid-based surfactants, FMEE, MES, APG, etc.), detergent raw materials and finished products, industrial, commercial, and household washing equipment, analytical testing instruments, as well as packaging technologies and machinery for daily chemical products—encompassing the full spectrum of categories. From upstream raw materials to end-use products, and from R&D innovations to production equipment, a complete industrial ecosystem has been formed. In 2025, leading domestic and international companies such as Zhongqing Group, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), Solvay, Milliken, Zhejiang Zanyu, Langqi, Jinling Petrochemical, Liaoning Oak, Jiangsu Qingting, and Shanxi Qingshan participated in the event.
- The expo aligns closely with three major industry trends—green environmental protection, technological innovation, and sustainable development—establishing a robust hub for deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application.Concurrent with the expo, academic forums such as the “International High-Level Forum on Surfactants” are held, bringing together top industry experts to engage in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics, including the production of novel green surfactants from renewable resources, the development of functional surfactants, and the industrialization of bio-surfactants. The expo also emphasizes cross-sectoral applications of surfactants in areas such as personal care, textiles, building materials, oilfields, petroleum refining, agrochemicals, coatings, papermaking, leather processing, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, and electronics, guiding the industry toward greater efficiency, environmental friendliness, and sustainability.
- For Chinese enterprises, this expo serves as a strategic gateway for expanding both domestic and international markets, connecting with global resources, and showcasing innovative capabilities. Not only is it the sole specialized exhibition in China focusing exclusively on surfactants and detergents, but through intensive exchanges with international peers, it also builds a bridge for domestic companies to reach the global stage. Exhibitors can leverage the expo’s platform to establish connections with professional buyers, technical experts, and industry leaders worldwide, gaining access to cutting-edge industry insights and staying abreast of international market dynamics. By tapping into this platform, participating companies can secure global procurement channels and seize early opportunities in the ongoing transformation of the surfactant industry toward greener, more functional, and higher-end solutions.

Review
The 2025 Shanghai International Exhibition on Surfactants and Detergents (IESD 2025) was successfully held from April 23 to 25, 2025, at the Shanghai International Convention and Exhibition Center.Hosted by Shanghai Yihan Exhibition Service Co., Ltd., this edition marked the event’s 15th anniversary and stood as a premier annual gathering for the surfactant and detergent industries.
In terms of scale, the exhibition spanned 10,000–12,000 square meters, bringing together 189 exhibitors from around the globe to showcase cutting-edge innovations in surfactants, detergents, personal care raw materials, packaging machinery, and related fields.Over the three-day period, the event attracted 8,041 professional visitors from 53 countries and regions, representing a significant increase compared with previous editions. Nearly 10% of attendees were international, and more than 90% held purchasing decision-making authority or participated in such decisions.
This year’s show featured a wealth of highlights, with green sustainability and technological innovation emerging as central themes.Exhibitors—including China Light Industry Group, SABIC, Solvay, Milliken, Zhejiang Zanyu, Langqi, Jinling Petrochemical, Liaoning Oak, Jiangsu Qingting, and Shanxi Qingshan—presented their latest products and technologies. The exhibition showcased novel eco‑friendly offerings such as green surfactants derived from renewable resources, amino acid‑based surfactants, fatty acid methyl ester ethoxylates (FMEE), alkyl polyglucosides (APG), as well as environmentally responsible detergents and advanced cleaning solutions.
A robust array of concurrent events further elevated the platform for industry dialogue and collaboration.During the exhibition, the “2025 Industrial Cleaning Technology Symposium” and the “First International High-Level Forum on Surfactants” were held, attracting 120 submitted papers and featuring 32 leading industry experts delivering keynote presentations. Nearly 600 delegates attended these sessions. Discussions centered on前沿 topics such as the development of green surfactants, applications of functional surfactants, industrialization of bio‑surfactants, and formulation technologies for eco‑friendly detergents, providing valuable intellectual support for technological advancement and industrial upgrading.
The professional visitor base was exceptionally strong, underscoring the high quality of buyer engagement. The event drew buyers from 19 major application sectors, including personal care, cosmetics, textiles, building materials, oilfields, petroleum refining, agrochemicals, coatings, papermaking, leather, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, cleaning, and electronics.
