Profile

The Hong Kong International Motor Show (IMXPO) is one of the most influential automotive exhibitions in Hong Kong and throughout Southern China. Held annually since 2016, it has become a key platform for showcasing the latest technologies and products from the global automotive industry. The Designer Zone, featuring renowned automotive design brands, serves as the exhibition’s central hub. Beyond presenting international automotive marques and cutting-edge technologies, the event integrates a range of trendy artistic elements, making IMXHK an unmissable destination that helps exhibitors enhance their brand image, boost sales, and cultivate future customers.

This year’s show spans a total area of 30,000 square meters and is divided into seven thematic zones: the “Supercar Zone,” the “Motorcycle Pavilion,” the “Hong Kong Automotive Culture Festival,” the “Parts, Accessories & Services Avenue,” the “IMX CARNIVAL Family Carnival,” the “International Exhibition Hall,” and, for the first time, the “Mainland China Electric Vehicle Pavilion.”

Of particular note is the newly established “Mainland China Electric Vehicle Pavilion,” which brings together more than ten leading Chinese EV manufacturers—including FAW, SAIC, BYD, Dongfeng, Geely, and Great Wall—showcasing the latest innovations and products in China’s new-energy vehicle sector. In addition, the exhibition features a diverse array of engaging activities, such as virtual driving challenges, themed fashion shows, new-product launch events, and specialized forums, attracting large numbers of automotive enthusiasts and industry professionals to attend and network.

Building on its past successes, this edition represents Hong Kong’s largest-ever automotive-themed event, while also connecting consumers, potential investors, collectors, partners, and other stakeholders with the myriad opportunities shaping the future of mobility. The Exhibition Value of the Hong Kong International Motor Show

  • The Hong Kong International Motor Show (IMXpo) is Hong Kong’s largest and most influential automotive industry event. Since its inception in 2016, it has been successfully held for multiple editions and is widely recognized within the industry as a key platform for automotive cultural exchange and the showcase of cutting-edge technologies in Southern China. Co-organized by International Motor Show (Hong Kong) Management Co., Ltd., the Hong Kong Automobile Association, and the Hong Kong Automotive Chamber of Commerce, the show leverages Hong Kong’s unique geographical advantages as an international financial center—“backed by the motherland yet connected to the world”—to serve as a central hub linking global automotive resources, showcasing pioneering technological breakthroughs, and setting trends in automotive culture.
  • The core value of participation lies in its integrated “culture + technology + commerce” platform and its strategic advantage in connecting the Greater Bay Area and international markets. The exhibition spans the entire automotive value chain, including new vehicle launches, new energy technologies, intelligent connectivity, automotive components, automotive culture, and customization techniques. From mass-produced passenger cars to top-tier supercars, from JDM‑style modified vehicles to classic vintage cars, and from innovative new energy solutions to ancillary automotive services, it forms a complete closed-loop ecosystem for the automotive industry. Its professional audience comprises local and Greater Bay Area car enthusiasts, industry buyers, dealers, investors, and media, providing exhibiting companies with a strategic gateway to engage directly with regional core consumer groups and purchasing decision-makers.
  • The show has established an international platform that bridges global automotive cultures, bringing together leading brands and innovative forces. Past editions have attracted over 100 exhibitors and more than 30 international automotive brands, with a total of over 200 vehicles on display. In 2025, the show will, for the first time, collaborate officially with Japan’s Tokyo Auto Salon, inviting legendary figures from the Japanese tuning scene—such as RE Yamiya, Rocket Bunny, and Liberty Walk—to attend in person, fostering a deep integration between JDM tuning culture and Hong Kong’s automotive heritage. Mainland Chinese automakers—including GAC Aion, BYD, Geely, Zeekr, Leapmotor, and Wuling—will also make a collective appearance, showcasing their latest new-energy models and highlighting China’s innovative prowess in this sector.
  • Keeping pace with the three major industry trends—electrification, intelligence, and customization—the show has created a high‑tech hub characterized by deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application. Focusing on cutting-edge topics such as new energy technologies, intelligent driving, and vehicle customization, the exhibition features dedicated thematic zones, including the “New Energy and Future Mobility Pavilion” and the “Hong Kong Automotive Culture Festival,” where innovations like all‑electric vehicles, hybrid technologies, smart cockpits, and autonomous driving solutions are prominently displayed. Concurrent events—including a JDM beauty pageant, a car‑model competition, specialized seminars, and family‑friendly carnivals—provide comprehensive support to exhibiting companies, spanning technical showcases to cultural outreach.
  • For Chinese enterprises, this show serves as a strategic gateway to tap into the Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area markets, connect with international resources, and demonstrate brand strength. As a “super connector” and “super value‑addition platform,” Hong Kong represents a crucial stepping stone for mainland automakers seeking to expand internationally. Exhibiting companies can leverage this platform to engage with Hong Kong‑based investment institutions, broaden their reach into Southeast Asia, enhance their global brand visibility, and seize early opportunities in the global transformation of the new‑energy vehicle industry.

Review

The Hong Kong International Motor Expo 2025 (IMXpo 2025) was successfully held from December 11 to 14 at the AsiaWorld–Expo in Hong Kong. Hosted by International Motor Show (Hong Kong) Management Co., Ltd., this edition marked the first official collaboration with Japan’s Tokyo Auto Salon, jointly presenting “Tokyo Auto Salon – Hong Kong Edition (TAS·HK),” making it a premier annual event for Hong Kong’s automotive industry.

In terms of scale, the four-day exhibition attracted more than 80 brands and showcased over 200 vehicles, spanning new cars, supercars, JDM‑tuned vehicles, classic vintage cars, new‑energy vehicles, and commercial vehicles. The event occupied Halls 3, 6, 8, and 10, covering approximately 20,000 square feet. On opening day, it drew a large crowd of car enthusiasts, with exceptionally high attendance throughout the venue.

This year’s expo featured a rich array of highlights, with JDM tuning culture and new‑energy vehicles taking center stage as key attractions. For the first time, the show partnered officially with Tokyo Auto Salon, bringing together legendary figures from Japan’s tuning scene: Liberty Walk founder Wataru Kato, Top Secret president Kazuhiko Nagata, RE Amemiya president Takeshi Amemiya, Rocket Bunny’s Kei Miura, renowned Japanese racer Manabu Orito, and his daughter Misa Orito, who all engaged directly with fans on site. Among the JDM‑tuned vehicles specially shipped to Hong Kong were the MF Ghost GR86, Top Secret R33 GT‑R Stealth 1st, Amemiya NA‑7, Rocket Bunny Lotus Elise, Max Orido FL5, Mazda RX‑7 254i GTX Le Mans, and KUHL Racing 34ZR‑GTWR SPEC‑D, showcasing the pinnacle of Japanese tuning craftsmanship. Liberty Walk also collaborated cross‑brand with local streetwear label BAPE, adorning Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Huracán with BAPE’s iconic camouflage paintwork, drawing significant attention as a highlight of the show.

Chinese new‑energy vehicle brands made a strong impression, with several models debuting in Hong Kong for the first time. GAC Aion unveiled its new AION UT, appointing pop icon Karen Mok as product ambassador; MG introduced the MG S6 EV; BYD exhibited the Seal 6; Zeekr brought the 007GT and 9X; Leapmotor showcased the B10 model, soon to enter the Hong Kong market; Wuling launched the all‑new Darion EV MPV, with Wong Cho-lam and his wife becoming the first Hong Kong owners. Geely presented the E5 Max Plus long‑range version, while Chery OMODA & JAECOO displayed multiple models, and KIA exhibited the PV5 pure‑electric van, winner of the “2026 International Van of the Year” award.

The hypercar zone dazzled with an impressive lineup of world‑class supercars. Rare gems such as the Mercedes‑AMG One, Prodrive P25, KTM X‑Bow GT‑XR, Singer Porsche, Pagani Huayra BC, and Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport were all on display, becoming must‑visit photo spots for enthusiasts.

Complementary events added depth, creating a high‑end platform for industry networking and experiential engagement. During the expo, the inaugural Hong Kong JDM Beauty Pageant, the Miss IMX Car Model Contest, an automotive audio auction, a virtual driving challenge, along with numerous specialized seminars and professional forums, were held. A dedicated German Automotive Culture Zone showcased classic German vehicles, while interactive activities like a family carnival and STEM workshops further enriched the immersive automotive experience.

The professional audience was robust, delivering notable conversion rates. The event drew car enthusiasts, potential buyers, industry experts, and investors from Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and neighboring countries. Industry bodies such as the Hong Kong Automobile Association and the Chinese Automobile Association of Hong Kong participated extensively. Exhibiting companies widely reported that the quality of professional visitors was high, with clear purchasing intent, resulting in highly effective business matchmaking on site.

The expo yielded substantial results and received enthusiastic industry acclaim. During the event, heated discussions arose around “fake parts” in the tuning community, highlighting value‑system clashes amid the rapid evolution of Hong Kong’s tuning culture and providing valuable insights for future industry development. Attendees agreed that IMXpo is not only an excellent platform for brand exposure and business connections but also a crucial hub for understanding automotive cultural trends and exploring synergies between new‑energy technologies and tuning innovations. IMXpo has also established a strategic partnership with the Foshan Tuning Show, jointly launching the “Greater Bay Area JDM Tuning Culture Season” to co‑create an integrated automotive cultural ecosystem across the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
