Milan Optical and Eyewear Exhibition, ItalyProfile
The MIDO Optical and Eyewear Show in Milan, Italy, is a premier event for the global optical and eyewear industry. Established in 1970, it ranks among the world’s largest specialized eyewear exhibitions. The showcased products are of high caliber and excellent quality, while the latest styles and technologies set trends that shape global consumer preferences. As a result, MIDO enjoys an outstanding reputation within the industry, offering professionals and visitors a comprehensive insight into current developments and future trends in the global eyewear manufacturing sector.
At the new Milan Convention Centre, MIDO hosted over 1,305 exhibitors across seven exhibition halls and welcomed more than 58,000 trade visitors—up 11% compared to the previous year. Participation from both Italian and international exhibitors was on the rise, with attendees hailing from over 160 countries and regions spanning Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Europe.
“Before the show opened, we aimed to surpass last year’s visitor numbers. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and the industry’s continued trust in us, we successfully achieved our ambitious goals,” said Giovanni Vitaloni, President of MIDO. “Throughout the exhibition, we observed highly engaged buyers showing strong interest in the exhibitors, a success attributable in part to our collaboration with ITA, the Italian Trade Agency—an organization synonymous with quality, excellence, and transparency, which underscores that the Milan Eyewear Show embodies these very attributes.”
Closing deals and forging connections represent essential added value, driving many companies worldwide to participate annually in the Milan Eyewear Show. Yet MIDO goes beyond commerce, fostering cultural exchange, dialogue on the industry’s future, and the sharing of practical and innovative solutions. This explains the significance of the conferences held in the OTTI CLUB space. On this consistently packed stage, discussions centered on design, with attendees emphasizing that today’s avant-garde aesthetic—characterized by less rigid conventions, sustainable lightweight designs, and handcrafted elements—represents a vital return to design’s fundamental roots. In recent years, Chinese light industrial products have faced growing resistance in European markets and within the EU. By participating in this exhibition, companies leverage preferential trade‑zone conditions to expand their export market share and further boost foreign trade. Accordingly, the MIDO Optical and Eyewear Show in Milan, Italyprovides Chinese manufacturers and import‑export firms with a premium platform for entering international markets. Chinese enterprises have long been key participants, and their importance to the global eyewear industry is amply reflected in the exhibition’s dedicated pavilions.
