The China Optics Valley International Optoelectronics Expo—Wuhan Optics Valley Expo (OVC EXPO)—has witnessed and propelled the leapfrog development of the optoelectronics information industry. With unwavering courage for continuous innovation and an open-minded spirit, the Wuhan Optics Valley Expo is illuminating the vast horizons of the future optoelectronic world.

In 2002, when the inaugural Wuhan Optics Valley Expo was held, the target scale of the Optics Valley industry was only RMB 100 billion. Today, Hubei’s optoelectronics information industry has surpassed RMB 1 trillion, accounting for half of the national total. Meanwhile, China Optics Valley has transformed from a once‑forgotten corner on the map of Wuhan into a science and technology innovation city spanning 518 square kilometers, establishing the world’s most comprehensive optoelectronics information industrial chain and home to 16,000 related enterprises.

The China Optics Valley International Optoelectronics Expo—Wuhan Optics Valley Expo (OVC EXPO)—is inherently international; in its first edition, foreign‑invested enterprises accounted for over 60%. Over the years, global giants such as Alcatel, Siemens, IBM, TRUMPF, and Fujikura have been regular participants. Through the expo, companies have secured investment projects, while local Optics Valley firms have leveraged the platform to expand globally—companies like Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable, FiberHome Technologies, and HGTECH have already established worldwide operations.

As a leading industry benchmark, each edition of the Wuhan Optics Valley Expo stays at the forefront of global technological trends: from 3G, 4G, and 5G to 6G; from VR/AR to AI‑powered humanoid robots and low‑altitude drones—constantly guiding the industry toward forward‑looking strategic planning. Exhibited technologies include the world’s first 8‑inch silicon photonics thin‑film lithium niobate wafer, the largest optical fiber preform globally, and the highest‑power domestically produced industrial laser, underscoring the expo’s core philosophy of “innovation as the soul.”

The Exhibition Value of the Wuhan Optics Expo

  • The China Optical Valley International Optoelectronics Expo is one of the largest, most prestigious, and longest-running specialized events in China’s optoelectronics and information technology sectors. Since its inception in 2002, it has been successfully held for twenty editions and is widely recognized within the industry as a leading indicator of domestic optoelectronics development and a central hub for global optoelectronic technology exchange. Hosted by the People’s Government of Hubei Province and leveraging Wuhan’s “China Optical Valley”—the world’s largest R&D and manufacturing base for optical fibers and cables, as well as the nation’s largest production center for optoelectronic devices—the expo has become a strategic platform for connecting global optoelectronic supply-chain resources, showcasing cutting-edge technological achievements, and guiding industry‑wide development trends.
  • The core value of participating lies in its unparalleled industry influence and its role as a precision‑driven platform that links global optoelectronic supply-chain resources. At the 20th edition in 2025, the expo attracted 390 exhibiting companies from 12 countries and regions, welcomed 69,000 professional visitors—both record highs—and has, over its history, drawn more than 6,800 top-tier enterprises from over 30 countries and regions, hosted over 600,000 professional attendees, and convened more than 330 international summits. For the first time, the event was integrated into UNESCO’s Global “International Day of Light” series, marking its formal inclusion in the worldwide optoelectronic innovation network.
  • The expo has established a one-stop commercial platform covering the entire optoelectronics value chain. Exhibits span four core segments—laser technologies and applications, optical communications and all‑optical networks, optics and precision optics, and optoelectronic technologies and applications—highlighting前沿technologies and application outcomes such as fiber‑optic communication systems, high‑power laser equipment, precision optical components, and automotive‑mounted optoelectronic modules. The expo also aligns closely with the transformation and upgrading needs of key mid‑western industries—including automotive engineering, optoelectronic displays, semiconductors, biomedicine, and advanced manufacturing—thereby fostering a platform for precise technology‑market alignment.
  • Keeping pace with three major industry trends—“light plus applications, intelligent integration, and technological innovation”—the expo has created a high‑level technical ecosystem characterized by deep collaboration among industry, academia, research institutions, and end users. At the 2025 edition, the expo debuted a dedicated “Light + Smart Terminal Applications” convergence zone, showcasing cutting‑edge use cases such as autonomous driving, robotics, and AI. Concurrently, more than 20 high‑profile seminars were held, bringing together over 300 distinguished experts, including academicians and industry leaders, to engage in in‑depth discussions on critical topics like ultrafast lasers, silicon photonics, and optical chip packaging and testing.
  • For Chinese enterprises, this expo serves as a strategic gateway for expanding into mid‑western markets, connecting with global resources, and demonstrating innovative capabilities. At the 2025 edition, the expo introduced, for the first time on a large scale, overseas buyer delegations from Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, Egypt, and other countries, releasing targeted demand lists to help companies “set sail” internationally. During the event, a total of 20 major investment projects were signed, with a combined value of RMB 19.52 billion, spanning areas such as optical communications, integrated circuits, compound semiconductors, next‑generation displays, and artificial intelligence. Participating companies can leverage this platform to access global procurement networks and seize early opportunities in the intelligent, integrated, and international transformation of the optoelectronics industry.
