The Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center is a convention center located in Long Beach, California. The exhibition area totals 572,387 square feet (53,176 square meters), built on the site of the former Long Beach Municipal Auditorium. The venue consists of the Long Beach Convention Center, the Long Beach Arena, and the Long Beach Performing Arts Center.The Long Beach Arena was the first building completed in the complex. It can accommodate the following number of people:Hockey - 11,200, Basketball - 13,609, Concerts - 4,550, or 9,200 to 13,500 depending on seating arrangements.The stadium has hosted various entertainment, professional, and collegiate sports events, most notably the volleyball competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
At trade shows, the arena spans 46,000 square feet (4,300 square meters), the hall covers 19,000 square feet (1,800 square meters), and the lobby spans 29,000 square feet (2,700 square meters). Suspended from the 77-foot (23-meter) high ceiling is a centrally hung scoreboard with four white "super color" animated screens. At the south end of the arena, there is a SACO Smartvision LED wall measuring 11 feet by 15 feet.
On October 14, 1967, the Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers, both expansion teams, held their first NHL game at the stadium. The Kings played half of their season in Long Beach while the Forum was under construction.
