The Exhibition Value of the Fujian Fisheries Expo
- The Fuzhou Fisheries and Aquaculture Exhibition (hereinafter referred to as the Fujian Fisheries Expo), co-hosted by the China Fisheries Association, the People’s Government of Fuzhou City, and the Fujian Provincial Department of Ocean and Fisheries, has been successfully held for seventeen editions since its inception in 2005. It ranks second globally among fisheries exhibitions in terms of scale. Against the backdrop of China’s high-quality development of the marine economy and the vigorous advancement of the “Maritime Fuzhou” strategy, the expo is widely recognized within the industry as a leading indicator of global fisheries sector trends and a pivotal gateway for enterprises seeking to expand both domestic and international markets.
- A One‑Stop Showcase Covering the Entire Industry ChainThe exhibition encompasses every link in the value chain, including aquaculture, deep-sea fishing, advanced processing, ready‑to‑eat seafood products, smart fisheries equipment, cold‑chain logistics, and recreational fisheries. From live seafood to convenient ready‑to‑eat meals, from traditional farming to AI‑powered intelligent aquaculture systems, exhibitors can seamlessly integrate product presentation, brand exposure, and business negotiations under one roof. In 2025, the event will feature eight major exhibition zones—International Pavilion, Aquaculture Processing Zone, Ready‑to‑Eat Seafood Zone, Deep‑Sea Fisheries Full‑Chain Zone, and others—spanning a total area of 57,000 square meters.
- Precise Connections with Global Key Buyers and Industry Chain ResourcesIn 2025, the expo will attract exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions. Ten nations—including Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea, Iran, Ecuador, Brunei, Russia, Australia, and Canada—will participate in the form of national pavilions, marking the highest number of international delegations in the expo’s history. Over the three-day event, the exhibition drew 32,312 professional buyers and 196,000 visitors, generating RMB 350 million in on-site retail sales and RMB 1.56 billion in intended transaction value—both figures reaching record highs. The expo also introduced a special “One Festival, Two Forums” program, featuring a Private‑Domain Buyer Festival, a Supermarket & Retailer Procurement Forum, and a Direct‑Sourcing Meeting for Leading Foodservice Brands. Nearly 120 companies secured on‑site cooperation agreements, with intended transaction values exceeding RMB 300 million.
- Unique Value for Chinese Enterprises: A Strategic Engine for Global Brand ExpansionThe Fuzhou Fisheries Expo serves as a core platform for Chinese seafood enterprises to showcase their own brands, connect with international clients, and secure overseas orders. From Ecuadorian white shrimp to Iranian Caspian sturgeon, from Vietnamese pangasius to Bruneian grouper, premium seafood products from around the world converge here. Meanwhile, Chinese processed seafood, ready‑to‑eat dishes, and high‑value-added products are also making their way onto the global stage through this platform. For the first time, the expo partnered with the China–Portuguese‑Speaking Countries Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, extending invitations to nine Portuguese‑speaking nations. Officials from Portugal, Brazil, Angola, and seven other Portuguese‑speaking countries attended, and the Fuzhou–Portuguese‑Speaking Countries Marine Fisheries Industry Investment Promotion Conference was successfully held, laying a solid foundation for expanding the international fisheries network.
- Aquatic processed foods and advanced processing emerge as core growth drivers. With the accelerating trend toward restaurant chain expansion and upgrading household consumption, the variety of aquatic processed food products continues to grow. Fujian Tianma Technology Group showcased over 100 eel-processing items, ranging from grilled eel and eel rice bowls to eel balls and eel pizzas, leveraging its “All-Eel Feast” concept to capture the burgeoning ready‑to‑eat market. Fujian Yida Food has upgraded its kelp seedlings—from salted preparations to clean-cut and dried forms—and is now actively developing ready‑to‑eat kelp seedling products. At the 2025 exhibition, the aquatic processed foods zone became a major highlight, clearly underscoring the industry’s shift toward “ready‑to‑eat, convenient, and branded” offerings.
- Smart fisheries and green aquaculture set the industry’s direction. The exhibition featured cutting-edge technologies, including intelligent offshore aquaculture platforms, deep-sea fishing equipment, and AI‑based water-quality monitoring systems. Academician Gui Jianfang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered a keynote address titled “Aquaculture Breeding and Seed Industry Innovation Driving High‑Quality Fisheries Development,” emphasizing that innovation in the seed industry is the cornerstone of fisheries modernization. In 2025, the Fuzhou Marine Research Institute also held a centralized signing ceremony for 12 research projects under its “Challenge‑Based Recruitment” initiative, covering areas such as aquatic seed development, advanced processing of seafood, marine functional foods, new marine materials, and smart ocean technologies, further energizing innovation in marine science and technology.
- High‑level forums and deep connections with industry resources. Concurrent with the exhibition, 16 specialized events were held, including the Marine Economy and Fisheries Development Forum, the Fujian–Taiwan Fisheries Integration Conference, and the Southeast Asian Countries’ Fisheries Cooperation Meeting, bringing together representatives from embassies and consulates of more than 20 countries, along with fisheries officials, academicians, experts, and industry leaders. Under the theme “Empowering the Blue Economy through Technology, Leading Sustainable Fisheries Development with Green Practices,” participants shared global experiences in sustainable fisheries development. In his address, Cui Lifeng, President of the China Fisheries Association, called for the establishment of a new aquaculture model integrating “ecology + technology + market.”
- Fuzhou’s locational and industrial advantages. Fuzhou serves as a core city within China’s Marine Economy Demonstration Zone, with its fisheries output consistently ranking first nationwide for the past 30 years and its seafood production second nationally. Fuzhou leads the nation in abalone and eel production, while its overall strength in distant-water fisheries ranks first in the province and among the top nationwide. Benefiting from Fuzhou’s strategic position as a key node along the Belt and Road Initiative and the tariff‑preferential policies under RCEP, the Fujian Fisheries Expo provides exhibitors with a strategic platform to connect with both global and domestic markets.
