The Exhibition Value of the China International Technology Import & Export Fair
- The China (Shanghai) International Technology Import & Export Fair (CSITF, also known as the Shanghai Fair) is a national‑level, international technology trade exhibition approved by the State Council and hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Since its inception in 2013, it has been successfully held for eleven sessions and is widely recognized in the industry as a leading indicator in China’s technology trade sector and a central hub for connecting and commercializing global scientific and technological innovations. With the core philosophy of “Technology Makes Life More Wonderful” and the theme of “Driving Development through Innovation, Protecting Intellectual Property, and Promoting Technology Trade,” the fair is committed to establishing an authoritative platform for showcasing, exchanging, and facilitating technology trade.
- The core value of participation lies in the fair’s endorsement as a national‑level platform and its channel advantages for precisely linking resources across the entire technology trade value chain. At the eleventh edition in 2025, the exhibition will span 35,000 square meters, bringing together nearly 1,000 enterprises from close to 20 countries and regions worldwide, as well as from nearly 20 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities within China, attracting tens of thousands of professional visitors. Exhibitors cover four major technical sectors—commercial cryptography and digital manufacturing, green energy and storage/transportation, intelligent marine engineering and equipment, and consumer and commercial technologies—alongside dedicated areas for technology transaction services. Among the professional audience, decision‑makers from government agencies, research institutes, investment firms, and leading industry players constitute a significant proportion, providing participating companies with a strategic gateway to engage directly with key global technology‑trade procurement decision‑makers.
- The fair has established a one‑stop service platform that encompasses the entire technology‑trade ecosystem. As a core component of the Shanghai Fair, the Technology Transfer Zone focuses on the “four ends”—supply, demand, services, and platforms—systematically and contextually supporting the transfer and commercialization of scientific and technological achievements. At the tenth edition in 2024, more than 2,000 domestic and international innovations and over 500 enterprise‑driven innovation needs were unveiled, with over a thousand on‑site matchmaking sessions conducted during the event—an increase of 30% compared to the previous session. Nearly 200 technologies received customized “Exclusive Patent Value Reports,” and the total intended cooperation value approached RMB 1.5 billion. Leveraging the online InnoMatch global supply‑demand matching platform, the fair enables users to seamlessly match technology, funding, and talent with a single click, expediting the securing of collaborative resources.
- Keeping pace with three major industry trends—digital transformation, green and low‑carbon development, and intelligent integration—the fair has forged a high‑ground for deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application. For the first time in 2025, the fair will feature dedicated zones for intelligent marine engineering and equipment, as well as for consumer and commercial technologies, and will debut seven globally or nationally pioneering technologies, including a quantum‑encrypted private network. Concurrently, the fair hosts high‑level forums, themed days, and technology‑transaction matchmaking services, addressing critical issues such as corporate overseas expansion, technology trade, and intellectual property protection. Tongyu Communications will showcase at the 2025 fair an integrated space‑air‑ground communication solution, encompassing low‑orbit and geostationary satellite technologies along with self‑developed high‑performance ground terminals, suitable for diverse applications including emergency communications, offshore operations, aviation connectivity, and low‑altitude drone logistics.
- Benefiting from Shanghai’s strategic position as a global center for scientific and technological innovation, the fair provides enterprises with a strategic pathway to expand both domestic and international markets. The Shanghai Fair has established a mechanism for designated guest countries (and cities). In 2025, Glasgow, UK, and Shenzhen, China, will serve as the overseas and domestic guest cities, respectively, facilitating 14 cooperative projects between Chinese and British enterprises. The fair has previously organized overseas exhibitions in the Czech Republic, Greece, Latvia, and Turkey. Preparations for the 2026 edition are already underway, with the digital intelligence technology zone expanding to over 3,800 square meters. Drawing on Shanghai’s strengths in artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, and quantum technologies, the fair aims to promote precise connections between cutting‑edge technology firms and domestic and international partners. Participating enterprises can leverage this platform to access core global procurement networks, seizing early opportunities in the internationalization, digitalization, and industrialization of technology trade.
