Mobile World Congress Africa Profile
The Mobile World Congress Africa (MWC Africa is the most influential telecommunications exhibition in Africa. Each year, GSMA hosts the MWC mobile communications conference and the Mobile360 series of regional events in Spain, China, the United States, and other countries and regions.
Since launching the Mobile360 regional conference in Africa in 2014, GSMA has successfully doubled the event’s scale. Responding to industry calls, GSMA has leveraged its global reach to bring a world‑leading technology showcase—MWC Africa—to this fastest‑growing continent. Beginning in 2022, MWC Africa has actively supported the transformative ambitions of Africa’s mobile technology sector, forging new partnerships with local public authorities and private enterprises to pursue innovative solutions.
The Mobile World Congress Africa (MWC Africa) not only addresses emerging themes in the mobile technology industry but also seeks to expand the scope of its Leaders’ Forum—the African Ministerial Track—creating a truly cross‑industry platform. MWC Africa focuses on five key areas: 5G, digital finance, the healthy development of the internet, startup incubation platforms, and building a digital Africa.
The Mobile World Congress Africa (MWC Africa) attracts nearly 1,000 renowned companies from 75 countries and regions, with senior executives and decision‑makers accounting for over 40% of attendees. More than 200 global industry experts have delivered over 60 hours of presentations across these five priority areas. International giants such as Airtel, MasterCard, Meta, MTN, Orange, Qualcomm, Vodacom, Cloudwalk, and ZTE have participated in the event.
Today, Rwanda boasts economic recovery, a clean and well‑maintained urban environment, warm and hospitable citizens, an extensive road network, and robust public safety, making it one of the safest countries in Africa—and the fifth safest globally. In 2019, Rwanda ranked second worldwide in economic growth rate and was recognized as the second most business‑friendly country in Africa.
