Africa Food Show (AFS) Profile
The Africa Food Show (AFS) is one of the largest professional exhibitions in Ghana. The AFS receives strong support from the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the China-Ghana Friendship Association, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and the Ghana-China Friendship Association.
Ghana's food market holds immense potential, while its local food processing industry remains underdeveloped. Despite high import tariffs imposed by the government, a significant portion of Ghana's food supply is imported from abroad, primarily from China. The regulatory requirements for food imports are relatively flexible, and products compliant with Chinese food standards are generally accepted for sale in the local market.
The rapidly growing youth and middle-aged demographic, comprising 50% of the population, has driven increasing demand for carbonated drinks, juices, and functional beverages. As one of Africa's top ten tourist destinations, the development of the tourism sector, coupled with lifestyle changes among middle- and high-income households and the proliferation of fast-food chains and supermarkets, has further boosted the market. Serving as a gateway to a broader West African market of 250 million people, Ghana has seen a steady rise in food and beverage imports from China in recent years. The Africa Food Show (AFS) serves as the premier trade platform for Chinese food enterprises to enter Ghana and expand across Africa.
