Exhibition Review
The 32nd Beijing International Radio, Film and Television Exhibition (BIRTV) 2025 was successfully held from August 20 to 23 at the China International Exhibition Center—Chaoyang Hall in Beijing. Under the guidance of the National Radio and Television Administration and China Media Group, the event was organized by China Radio and Television International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd., with the theme “Integration for Far-reaching Horizons, Intelligent Innovation for the Future.” This marked the 32nd edition since BIRTV’s inception. Concurrent activities included the BIRTV Thematic Report Session, specialized technical seminars, and the BIRTV Awards Ceremony.
With an exhibition area exceeding 50,000 square meters, the show brought together more than 500 exhibiting companies, occupying all 12 halls of the China International Exhibition Center. The exhibitor lineup featured leading domestic and international enterprises such as Sony, Panasonic, Huawei, ZTE, Sino‑Ocean, Sobey Digital, Newstar, and Jiecheng Century, alongside international participants from over 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Germany, Japan, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and South Korea. Over the four-day event, the exhibition welcomed more than 55,000 professional visitors, among whom overseas attendees came from over 60 countries and regions, including procurement delegations from mainstream media organizations along the Belt and Road Initiative.
For the first time, this year’s exhibition placed comprehensive emphasis on “AI + Broadcasting and Television,” making it the standout highlight of the event. China Media Group showcased its AI‑assisted production and broadcasting system in the “CMG Ultra‑HD Technology Achievement Zone,” which has already been deployed on a large scale during the 2025 Spring Festival Gala, delivering real‑time AI‑generated subtitles, multilingual voice‑overs, and intelligent editing capabilities. Huawei demonstrated the application of its Pangu Large Model in broadcast content creation, enabling automated video script generation, AI‑driven virtual presenters, and smart media asset management. Meanwhile, Sino‑Ocean unveiled its “Ocean AI Creation Platform,” supporting automated video editing and special‑effects generation based on natural language descriptions.
Ultra‑HD technology remained the central theme of the exhibition, with Sony unveiling its next‑generation 8K full‑frame global shutter camera, which achieves significant breakthroughs in dynamic range and low‑light performance, having been used in numerous theatrical films and major documentary productions. Panasonic presented its full‑frame 8K camera series, paired with its latest IT solutions, enabling end‑to‑end 8K production—from shooting to broadcasting. Domestic 8K equipment also made a strong impression, with several Chinese companies showcasing self‑developed 8K cameras, monitors, and codecs, whose core performance metrics are now approaching international cutting‑edge levels. According to the “China Ultra‑HD Industry Development Report 2025” released during the exhibition, China’s ultra‑HD video industry has surpassed RMB 3 trillion in size, with 8K terminal penetration exceeding 15%.
The results of the BIRTV Awards have been announced, with 20 products and technologies from 15 companies receiving accolades. Sony’s 8K full‑frame global shutter camera, Huawei’s Pangu Large Model solution for broadcasting, Sino‑Ocean’s AI Creation Platform, and China Media Group’s AI‑assisted production and broadcasting system were awarded the “BIRTV Product Award,” while five additional technologies received the “BIRTV Technology Award.” The chair of the BIRTV Awards Committee and head of the Technology Bureau of China Media Group stated, “This year’s winning entries fully demonstrate the deep integration of AI technology with broadcasting and television operations, representing the forefront of industry technological advancement.”
All specialized technical seminars were packed to capacity, with the BIRTV Thematic Report Session featuring a keynote address by the deputy director of the National Radio and Television Administration, who underscored the need to accelerate the strategic deployment of “AI + Broadcasting and Television” and drive the industry’s transition from digitalization to intelligentization. Members of China Media Group’s editorial committee shared their practical experience in ultra‑HD and AI fields. The specialized seminars addressed topics such as “Deep Integration of Ultra‑HD and 5G,” “AI‑Empowered Content Production,” “Operational Innovation in Converged Media Centers,” and “Technological Breakthroughs in Virtual Production,” inviting top domestic and international experts and corporate representatives to share their real‑world insights. Statistics indicate that more than 40 technical exchange events were held throughout the exhibition, attracting over 8,000 participants.
Exhibitors and industry stakeholders responded enthusiastically, with the president of Sony’s Professional Systems Group in China remarking, “BIRTV is the most important trade show for China’s broadcasting and television sector, and we choose to debut our flagship new products here every year. The rapid growth of China’s ultra‑HD market presents tremendous opportunities for Sony.” The CEO of Sino‑Ocean noted, “BIRTV is not only a platform for showcasing our offerings but also the best window for understanding customer needs and identifying industry trends. We secured numerous letters of intent and collaboration requests at the exhibition.” Overall, participating companies reported high‑quality professional audiences and a vibrant atmosphere of technical exchange, with many firms reaching significant cooperation agreements during the event.
