China (Shanghai) International Digital Interactive Entertainment Exhibition, CJProfile

ChinaJoy, the China International Digital Interactive Entertainment Exhibition, is the most important component of the ChinaJoy brand. It is the most influential event in the global digital interactive entertainment sector and ranks among the world’s top three gaming trade shows.

This year’s exhibition is themed “Exploring with AI,” and will present global audiences with a digital entertainment extravaganza that places AI and gaming at its core, seamlessly fusing technology with culture while juxtaposing a youthful ecosystem with a global perspective.

“Exploring with AI” is not merely a slogan—it embodies a forward-looking vision for the future of the digital entertainment landscape. AI has evolved from an abstract concept into a co-creative partner in the hands of players. The word “explore” (or “游”) echoes both “gaming” and “friendship,” subtly playing on the double entendre of “AI” and “love”—ChinaJoy was born out of passion, and now, driven by AI, it is entering a new phase of industry development. As a leading indicator of China’s digital entertainment sector, under the dual impetus of the nation’s “new-quality productivity” and the synergy between “technology + culture,” this event firmly establishes artificial intelligence and gaming as its enduring core pillars. Building on this foundation, it further integrates youth-oriented expressions, international expansion, enhanced service quality, and cross-platform collaboration, delivering a ChinaJoy that is more structurally comprehensive and technologically advanced than ever before.

This year’s exhibition boasts a total exhibition area exceeding 140,000 square meters, bringing together nearly 900 exhibiting companies from 39 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea, and others, among which 275 are foreign-invested enterprises. The BTOC Interactive Entertainment Pavilion covers nearly 120,000 square meters, hosting over 350 participating companies, while more than 500 game developers and teams are showcasing over a thousand products. Meanwhile, registrations for the Steam Online Gala have surpassed 600 titles.

On the first day of the exhibition, Meng Pu, Chairman of Qualcomm China, together with Hou Mingjuan, Global Vice President of Qualcomm, joined representatives from partners including China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Broadcasting Network, Xiaomi, iQOO, OnePlus, Honor, ZTE Nubia, Red Magic, Lenovo, JD.com, Wanwei Cat Animation, Perfect World, and others to attend the opening ceremony, officially kicking off the four-day Snapdragon-themed pavilion—a summer celebration of cutting-edge technology.

The Gaming Showcase section caters to diverse player preferences, ranging from AAA blockbusters to indie gems. Leading domestic and international brands—including NetEase Games, Blizzard Entertainment, Huawei Game Center, Century Huatong, Tencent Games, Giant Network, Kingsoft World, China Mobile Migu Interactive Entertainment, Perfect World, PlayStation, Chaoxi Guangnian, 360 Games, Shunwang Technology, Bilibili Games, Kaiying Network, My Garden World, Escape from Tarkov, 4399, Haoyou KuaiBao, 233 Paradise, GSE (Global Star Entertainment), Pocketpair, Tencent Video’s “Love to Play” platform, Game Snail, Longtu Think Tank, and Lexiang Yuanyou—have all gathered here. The ChinaJoy Express gaming demo zone features 88 games spanning a wide array of genres: fantasy adventures, mecha shooters, heartwarming management simulators, suspenseful puzzle titles, action roguelikes, and more—everything you could wish for is right here.

The Dimensional Vision Zone creates immersive visual‑creation and social‑sharing experiences, delivering a brand‑new imaging journey. This dedicated zone for imaging technology and anime‑related culture seamlessly integrates the entire industry chain—from capture and processing to output—drawing participation from leading imaging brands such as Sony, Nikon, SmallRig, Panasonic LUMIX, SIGMA, SanDisk, Techvision, Polaroid, Xingtu, Dandelion, Zhuoer, Qigongjiang, Nanguang, Lekai, Meike, “Pixel Cake,” Hanprint Instant Camera, Meitu Cloud Retouch, Yongnuo, and many others.

The Exhibition Value of the Shanghai International Digital Interactive Entertainment Expo

  • ChinaJoy is one of the most renowned and influential annual events in the global digital entertainment sector, ranking alongside Tokyo Game Show and Gamescom as one of the world’s three premier gaming expos. Founded in 2003 and organized by Shanghai Hanwei Xinheng Exhibition Co., Ltd., the expo has successfully held twenty-two editions, establishing itself as Asia’s largest benchmark for the digital entertainment industry.
  • The core value of participation lies in its platform‑wide coverage of the entire industry chain and its strategic advantage in precisely reaching the Generation Z consumer base. The BTOC exhibition area directly engages over 410,000 core gamers, with those aged 18–29 accounting for more than 60% of attendees, making it a strategic gateway for brands to engage directly with the primary young consumer demographic. Meanwhile, the BTOB zone brings together more than 460 companies from around the globe, providing an efficient matchmaking platform for game globalization, technology transfer, and investment collaboration.
  • The expo serves as a strategic bridge connecting global markets with cutting-edge resources, with its internationalization continuously advancing. For the 2025 edition, the event attracted 799 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions, with overseas and foreign‑invested enterprises accounting for 30% of participants, and drawing 14,700 international visitors. Overseas buyer delegations and leading international gaming giants engaged in in-depth exchanges with Chinese manufacturers, solidifying the expo’s role as a pivotal hub for global resource allocation within the gaming industry.
  • The expo gathers top-tier brands across the entire industry chain along with pioneering innovations, serving as a central showcase for “Made in China” on the world stage. Leading domestic and international companies—including Tencent, NetEase, Huawei, Sony, and Qualcomm—present their latest offerings, ranging from domestically produced AAA titles such as “Black Myth: Wukong” to AI‑powered gaming applications, and from XR hardware to intelligent entertainment robots, comprehensively highlighting technological advancements and content innovation in the digital entertainment sector.
  • Concurrent with the expo, high‑level forums such as the China International Digital Entertainment Conference (CDEC) and the Global Gaming Industry Summit are held, creating a thought leadership platform that fosters deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application. Industry leaders, technical experts, and investors engage in intensive discussions on前沿 topics including AI‑driven gaming, cultural globalization, and esports ecosystem development, providing participating companies with valuable trend insights and strategic guidance.
  • For Chinese enterprises, this expo represents a strategic gateway for expanding into global markets, connecting with international resources, and enhancing brand visibility. As Chinese game developers continue to broaden their overseas operations, the expo draws substantial numbers of international buyers and channel partners seeking collaborative opportunities. Exhibition Review

The 22nd China International Digital Interactive Entertainment Exhibition (ChinaJoy) 2025 was successfully held from August 1 to 4, 2025, at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. With the theme “Gathering What You Love,” this edition served as the grand finale of the inaugural Shanghai International Animation Month and stood as a premier annual event for the global digital entertainment industry.

In terms of scale, the exhibition spanned a total area of 135,000 square meters, attracting 799 renowned enterprises from 37 countries and regions. Visitor attendance reached 410,300, up 11.8% year over year, setting a new record in the history of the event. Visitors from overseas and other provinces accounted for 61% of the total, including 14,700 international attendees. The influx of visitors spurred approximately RMB 661 million in spending across catering, retail, accommodation, transportation, and other services, with retail and dining consumption in the Longyang Road commercial district surging by a factor of 6.7 compared to the previous year.

This year’s event witnessed a comprehensive upgrade in its level of internationalization. The B2B zone emerged as a standout highlight, hosting nearly 208 companies from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and other nations, showcasing cutting-edge game concepts, innovative technologies, and overseas financial and legal services. Overseas and foreign-invested enterprises collectively represented 30% of exhibitors. Many senior executives from international game developers attended ChinaJoy for the first time, viewing it as a pivotal platform for expanding into the Chinese market and strengthening client relationships.

The exhibition featured an array of highlights, where blockbuster games and groundbreaking technologies illuminated one another. Leading domestic publishers such as Tencent, NetEase, Century Huatong, Perfect World, and Giant Network showcased premium titles like “Delta Force,” “Sixteen Songs of Yanyun,” “Endless Winter,” and “Supernatural Operations Group,” drawing long queues for on-site demos. At Sony PlayStation’s booth, all demo stations offered trials of domestically developed games, including “Shadow Blade Zero,” “Lost Soul,” and “Black Myth: Wukong,” while the Eastern‑style pavilion design became a major eye‑catcher. Over a thousand major titles were unveiled, with a marked increase in standalone game offerings; works such as “Late Ming: Feather of the Abyss” and “Phantom Beast Palu” garnered significant attention.

AI technology profoundly enhanced the entertainment experience, emerging as one of the most striking features of this year’s show. For the first time, the exhibition introduced a “Smart Entertainment Robot” zone, where Virtual Motion Co. globally debuted its optical‑and‑markerless hybrid motion‑capture technology, unveiling the holographic MINI AI toy product Pocket Pal. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Pavilion brought together 15 XR devices spanning AR, VR, and MR categories. CreateAI’s AI‑driven creative experience zone showcased AI‑powered companionship games and anime video‑generation platforms, highlighting the potential of generative AI in content creation. Meanwhile, Zhongguancun Online collaborated with 25 brands to create a dedicated exhibition space exceeding 1,000 square meters, featuring Samsung’s PCIe 5.0 SSD 9100 PRO 8TB—the world’s first public debut—while AGON’s “Assassin’s Creed: Shadow” battle zone drew overwhelming enthusiasm.

Specialized zones and concurrent events added vibrant diversity to the program. The trendy figurine and model section continued to gain momentum, with Hot Toys presenting an array of character figures. The “Gu Zi Economy” became a key consumer trend, attracting cross‑industry players such as Lao Fengxiang and Aniplex’s booth offered limited‑edition merchandise based on popular IPs like “Puella Magi Madoka Magica,” “Lonely Rock!,” and “Demon Slayer,” drawing large crowds eager to “eat Gu Zi” on site. The China Game Innovation Competition gathered high‑quality domestic titles, while a dedicated creator zone made its debut, drawing more than 500 creator groups to register.

A strong contingent of professional attendees and gamers ensured a lively atmosphere throughout the event. Audiences under 34 years old accounted for 91%, with Generation Z forming the dominant demographic. Cosplay emerged as a primary form of engagement, with on‑site cosplay parades, stage performances, and interactive gaming activities reaching peak excitement. In coordination with the Longyang Road, Lujiazui, and Expo Frontage business districts, dedicated shuttle services were launched, while the Pudong Kerry Hotel and Shengqu Games introduced themed restaurants, extending the exhibition’s influence beyond the venue to the entire city.

The event yielded substantial outcomes and received enthusiastic industry acclaim. Attendees widely agreed that ChinaJoy is not only the annual highlight of the digital entertainment sector but also a critical hub for discerning industry trends and exploring new growth pathways. From the rise of domestic games and AI‑driven gameplay innovations to the explosive growth of the “Gu Zi Economy” and the thriving esports ecosystem, this year’s exhibition comprehensively showcased the innovative vitality and global reach of China’s digital entertainment industry.
