Profile
The China Higher Education Expo – HEEC, formerly known as the National Higher Education Instrument and Equipment Exhibition founded in the autumn of 1992, was included in the “Ministry of Commerce–Guided and Supported Exhibitions” in 2015. In 2017, the Chinese Society for Higher Education was designated as one of the “First Batch of Key Contact Enterprises in the Exhibition Industry” by the Ministry of Commerce (as an exhibition organizer). In January 2018, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the event was officially upgraded to the China Higher Education Expo. Following this rebranding, the expo will adopt a multi‑format approach, combining exhibitions, conferences, forums, and competitions, to showcase China’s achievements in higher education, support the development of a strong nation in higher education, and establish a national hallmark for Chinese higher education. It isthe largest and most influential comprehensive brand expo in the national higher education sector.
This edition of the HEEC will be themed “Integration of Vocational and General Education, Integration of Industry and Education, and Integration of Science and Education,” aiming to foster synergistic development across education, science, and talent. The main program comprises two major components: “Exhibitions” and “High‑Quality Academic Exchange Activities.”
The China Higher Education Expo – HEEC features two distinct sections: the High‑Tech Equipment Zone and the Specialized Zones. The High‑Tech Equipment Zone includes six sub‑zones—Laboratory and Research Instruments, Information Technology and Smart Education, Practical Training and Mechatronics, Medical Education and Health, Logistics and Safe Campus, and Sports Facilities and Supplies—showcasing products spanning artificial intelligence systems, autonomous driving, AI chips, intelligent robots, smart laboratories, smart dormitories, smart classrooms, and more. The Specialized Zones comprise three areas: Universities, Cross‑Strait Integrated Development Achievements, and Talent.
In addition, this year’s HEEC will host over 40 high‑quality academic exchange events across five categories, focusing on topics such as digital transformation in higher education, university infrastructure and development, teaching reform and faculty development, talent cultivation and holistic education, and universities’ contributions to local economic and social progress.
Li Nan, Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the Chinese Society for Higher Education, stated at the opening that this year’s HEEC fully implements the integrated strategy of education, science, and talent, with four key pillars and corresponding services: first, supporting high‑quality development of higher education through comprehensive educational reforms; second, advancing self-reliance in science and technology through cutting‑edge innovation in universities; third, fostering high‑level local talent pools via independent talent cultivation; and fourth, promoting cross‑strait integration and shared development through cultural and academic exchanges.
The China Higher Education Expo – HEECwas renamed from the National Higher Education Instrument and Equipment Exhibition to the China Higher Education Expo (referred to as “HEEC”) with the approval of the Ministry of Education, in order to comprehensively implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, fulfill the fundamental mission of cultivating virtue and nurturing talent, support the intrinsic development of higher education, and contribute to building a powerful nation in higher education. With a pioneering spirit, it seeks to write a new chapter in the modernization of higher education in the new era.
China Higher Education Expo – HEEC tickets are e-tickets. Mainland China visitors must complete online pre-registration with real-name ID verification; overseas visitors must use passport verification; Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan visitors must use their travel permit. Review
The 58th and 59th China Higher Education Expo were successfully held from April 8 to 10, 2023, at the Chongqing International Expo Center. With the theme “Integration of Universities and Localities, Integration of Industry and Education: Pursuing High-Quality Development,” this year’s event adopted an integrated online–offline format, becoming a landmark gathering in the education sector for the year.
Online participation reached 16 million人次, while over 90,000 attendees visited the venue in person. The exhibition spanned 120,000 square meters, attracting more than 1,500 participating institutions, including over 1,000 university leaders and 12 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Events and Impact: A total of 82 high-level conferences and forums were organized, garnering nearly 400 reports from mainstream media outlets, underscoring the expo’s substantial industry influence.
For the first time, four specialized zones were established: a University Zone, an Employment Zone, a Competition Zone, and a City Zone, precisely targeting key areas of interest and enriching the overall expo ecosystem.
Deepening University–Local Collaboration: The expo signed strategic cooperation agreements with five municipal departments—the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, the Economic and Information Technology Commission, the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and the Commerce Commission—and designated Fuzhou as the second batch of partner cities, thereby strongly advancing the deep integration of higher education with regional economic development.
Focusing on “Two Integrations”: Through a series of forums and exhibitions, the expo delved into practical pathways for both “University–Local Integration” and “Industry–Education Integration,” offering cutting-edge insights and solutions to drive high-quality development in higher education.
With record-breaking scale and innovative organizational approaches, this edition of the China Higher Education Expo successfully created a grand platform connecting government, universities, enterprises, and cities. It showcased the latest achievements of Chinese higher education in serving national strategies and local economies, while also playing a pivotal role in guiding and accelerating critical directions for future educational development.
