The Exhibition Value of the Shanghai International Starch Expo
- A leading indicator for the starch industry in the Asia-Pacific region, organized under the authoritative auspices of the China Starch Industry Association. Since its inception in 2006, co-hosted by the China Starch Industry Association and Shanghai Intex Exhibition Co., Ltd., the event has grown over nearly two decades into the largest and most specialized starch industry gathering in the Asia-Pacific. In 2025, with a sprawling exhibition space of 200,000 square meters and deep integration with concurrent food‑related exhibitions, it will span the entire starch and derivative value chain, as well as the broader food, beverage, and greater health sectors—serving as a strategic platform for starch companies to showcase their innovative capabilities, connect with global resources, and stay ahead of industry trends.
- Comprehensive coverage of the entire industry value chain, presenting all five core segments in full. Exhibits encompass a wide array of starches—including corn, potato, cassava, wheat, pea, mung bean, and more—alongside modified starches for food, paper, textile, and pharmaceutical applications; starch sugars and sugar alcohols such as glucose, maltose syrup, fructose‑glucose syrup, and functional oligosaccharides; starch processing equipment and ancillary systems—including complete production lines, cleaning and drying technologies, grinding and mixing machinery, and filtration and separation solutions—as well as comprehensive environmental protection equipment. From traditional raw materials to functional derivatives, from core processing machinery to cutting‑edge green technologies, the expo offers a holistic view of innovation across the entire starch industry value chain.
- Bringing together global buyer networks to create an international hub for business matchmaking. In 2025, the expo will host nearly 2,500 high‑quality exhibitors and welcome a total of 93,080 professional visitors—an increase of 21% compared to 2024. Among them, 14,554 were dedicated starch‑industry professionals, marking a record high. International attendance spans 93 countries and regions, up 45% year over year, with strong representation from South Asia, Europe, the Americas, and other key markets. During the event, 225 targeted trade‑matching sessions will be held, enabling exhibitors to access global procurement networks without leaving Shanghai.
- Dual‑core “raw materials × machinery” drive fosters a collaborative ecosystem of industrial innovation. For the first time, the expo introduces a dedicated “Starch Processing Equipment Showcase,” breaking traditional exhibition boundaries to enable direct data connectivity between raw material suppliers and equipment manufacturers, thereby catalyzing new models such as customized production and flexible manufacturing. The Discovery Tour—a journey through the starch industry chain—extends from the equipment zone to the raw material exhibitors, offering a panoramic view of the industry’s innovative ecosystem, from raw starch inputs to deeply processed end products.
- The World Starch Industry Congress provides authoritative support, establishing a platform for deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application. Concurrent with the expo, the Ninth World Starch Industry Congress will convene, featuring a series of thematic forums—including the Potato Starch and Deep‑Processing Industry Development Forum and the Starch Industry Chain Development Conference—where academicians, chief scientists of national industrial technology systems, and industry experts will engage in in‑depth discussions on pressing issues such as global transformations in the potato starch sector, technological innovation, and market dynamics. Meanwhile, the Xinhua Index Research Institute will release authoritative data analyses, providing enterprises with a high‑level think tank to navigate policy directions and gain insights into emerging industry trends.

Exhibition Review
From June 24 to 26, 2025, the 19th Shanghai International Starch and Starch Derivatives Exhibition was successfully held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Co-organized by the China Starch Industry Association and Shanghai BoHua International Exhibition Co., Ltd., this edition of the show created a synergistic effect with the concurrent Food Ingredients Exhibition, Nutrition & Health Products Exhibition, and Processing & Packaging Exhibition. With a total exhibition area exceeding 200,000 square meters, it brought together nearly 2,500 high-quality exhibitors and welcomed a cumulative total of 93,080 domestic and international professional visitors—up 21% from 2024, marking a new all-time high.
A robust exhibitor lineup showcased cutting-edge innovations across the entire industry chain. Leading end‑user companies such as COFCO Nutrition & Health Research Institute, Shanghai Taipailè, Jinmailang, Yum! Brands, Tsingtao Brewery, Unilever, Qiaqia Food, Dali Food, Yili Group, Bright Food, Haidilao, Huaxi Bio, Shuangta Food, Meihua Group, Cargill, Roquette, and others were among the attendees. Meanwhile, equipment and raw material suppliers—including Chongqing Jiangbei, Jiangsu Jueneng, Maiande, Hebei Pingle, Jiangsu Jiouwu, Dalian Sulushou, Fulewei, Zhejiang Zhengguang, Jiangsu Fengshang, Beijing Chengyitong, Wuxi Dadong, Guangzhou Guangzhong, Anhui Taidikang, Harbin Lianke, and Inner Mongolia Bosida—presented comprehensive starch-processing systems, eco‑friendly separation technologies, and innovative applications of various starches and modified starches.
Successful overseas buyer matchmaking facilitated precise global trade connections. During the event, professional buyers from 16 countries—including the United States, Egypt, Cambodia, Morocco, Ukraine, Myanmar, Russia, Indonesia, Bolivia, Colombia, Thailand, and the Philippines—were invited, resulting in 225 targeted business meetings between these international buyers and Chinese exhibitors on site. The matchmaking sessions spanned multiple sectors, including starch production, deep processing, environmental engineering, and food ingredients, leveraging a three‑dimensional framework of “product matching–on‑site negotiations–follow‑up services” to help participating companies efficiently expand into overseas markets.
A series of engaging concurrent forums fostered deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application. The “2025 Forum on the Development of Potato Starch and Deep‑Processing Industries,” held as a sub‑forum of the 9th World Starch Industry Congress, brought together eight distinguished experts, including Li Yi, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Starch Industry Association; Li Qiang, Chief Scientist of the National Sweet Potato Industry Technology System; and Zhang Zhenwen, Chief Scientist of the National Cassava Industry Technology System, who engaged in in‑depth discussions on transformative trends and technological innovations in the potato starch sector. Meanwhile, the “2025 Starch Industry Chain Development Conference” addressed pressing issues such as the impact of Sino‑ tariff policies and regional market segmentation within China, offering data‑driven insights and trend analyses to guide decision‑making for stakeholders across the value chain.
The Potato Cultural‑Creative Interaction Zone made its debut, harnessing cultural creativity to enhance industry outreach. In an innovative move, the exhibition introduced the “Potato Cultural‑Creative Interaction Zone,” curated on‑site by the team of contemporary artist Ma Dafei. This initiative reimagines the potato—from a traditional agricultural product—to a cultural symbol, employing interactive game installations and immersive starch‑based art experiences to vividly demonstrate the diverse applications of potato starch in food, materials, biotechnology, and other fields. For the first time, the exhibition also integrated potato starch with traditional ink‑calligraphy, breathing new life into abstract technical terminology through the expressive medium of calligraphy. The next edition of the event is scheduled to take place from June 15 to 17, 2026, once again at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
