The Tokyo Motorcycle Show is one of the world’s five major motorcycle exhibitions and Japan’s premier motorcycle show. The Japanese government continues to pursue a dual policy of fiscal and monetary easing to bolster the economy. According to a recent survey conducted by Kyodo News among Japan’s top companies, many anticipate a recovery in personal consumption and capital investment, which had been sluggish in 2016. Notably, 88% of respondents expect economic conditions to improve in 2017, nearly nine out of ten. Japan is undoubtedly a flagship of modern Asian industry, and this holds true for its motorcycle manufacturing sector as well.

Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki are Japan’s four most renowned motorcycle manufacturers. While Japan’s motorcycle industry can trace its origins back to the early 20th century, it only achieved substantial scale after World War II. In August last year, Japan produced 48,256 motorcycles, up 3.7% year on year, with Europe serving as its primary export market. As Japan’s industrial development progressed, air pollution levels rose, prompting the government to impose stricter emission standards. This regulatory framework has led to higher vehicle prices and a reduction in the number of models available in the domestic market.
