The Exhibition Value of Chengdu Pet Expo (TOPS)
- The Chengdu International Pet Expo (TOPS) is the largest and most influential pet industry event in Western China. Since its inception in 2012, it has successfully held thirteen editions, earning recognition as a leading indicator of trends in the central and western pet markets and a key driver of industry growth. Co-organized by the Sichuan Provincial Pet Association and Chengdu Tianyi Exhibition Service Co., Ltd., the expo leverages Chengdu’s strategic position as a major consumption hub in the west, extending its reach to vast markets including Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, and Xinjiang. It has evolved into a mature platform integrating brand promotion, channel development, new‑product launches, and direct engagement with pet owners.
- The core value of exhibiting lies in its ability to precisely target the central and western regions’ core market segments. As a New First‑Tier City, Chengdu ranks first nationwide in the number of pet stores, with a new‑store opening rate second only to Shanghai and Beijing, underscoring its immense market potential. Each year, the expo attracts over 500 exhibitors and more than 4,500 brands, drawing a total audience exceeding 110,000, including over 18,000 professional visitors. Through this platform, participating companies can directly connect with distributors, pet shops, breeders, and end consumers across the region, enabling efficient expansion into local markets.
- The expo has established a one‑stop commercial platform covering the entire pet industry value chain. Exhibits span all major segments, including pet food (main meals, treats, supplements), pet supplies (clothing, smart devices, toys, grooming products), veterinary care (health supplements, medications, vaccines, medical equipment), and live pets (dogs, cats, small and exotic animals). The four exhibition halls seamlessly integrate upstream and downstream ecosystems, offering buyers a comprehensive sourcing experience and helping businesses efficiently access industry resources.
- Keeping pace with the trends of “refined pet ownership” and “emotional consumption,” the expo has become a premier showcase for innovative products and cutting‑edge cultural expressions. With China’s urban pet‑related consumer market surpassing RMB 300.2 billion, pet owners increasingly seek quality and individuality. The expo features the “It Universe New Product Launch Zone,” highlighting high‑impact, aesthetically striking emerging products. Pet apparel brands present diverse collections—French countryside, outdoor camping, American retro styles—while co‑branded IP products (e.g., SpongeBob, Minions, Disney) have become hot consumer items, delivering a compelling “1+1>2” effect that bridges the gap with younger audiences.
- The expo hosts numerous high‑profile forums and specialized competitions, fostering deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application. The Innovators Conference focuses on dealer transformation and upgrading, as well as the development of regional distribution ecosystems, while the Cultivators Conference provides tailored operational solutions for retail outlets. Professional events such as the NGKC Pet Grooming and Skills Competition, the Purebred Dog Professional Super League, and the Canine Sports Carnival bring together top industry talent, with the Small Pets & Exotic Animals District making its debut as an instant crowd favorite. Additionally, the Care Good Owner‑sponsored Pet Economy Forum offers in‑depth insights into brand strategies, research, and market dynamics, sharing前沿industry perspectives.
- This expo serves as a strategic gateway for entering the central and western markets, showcasing brand strength, and capturing the benefits of consumption upgrading. Leveraging its highly dynamic consumer market and pet‑friendly living environment, Chengdu holds distinct advantages in the pet economy arena. Care Good Owner, a pet food brand under the Fortune Global 500 Tongwei Group, used the expo to revitalize its brand image, garnering significant attention from the Deputy Mayor of Chengdu and mainstream media. Participating companies can harness this platform to effectively connect with channel partners, transitioning from “selling products” to “building brands” and deeply embedding themselves in the burgeoning pet economy of central and western China.
