The No. 1 Air Force Base of Mexico is a branch of the Mexican Armed Forces' air service. It is part of the Mexican Army and is therefore supervised by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA). The FAM's objective is to defend Mexico's integrity, independence, and sovereignty. Its auxiliary tasks include internal security, assistance with public works, and disaster management.

The establishment of the Mexican Air Force was led by five Mexican aviation pioneers who were sent by President Francisco Madero to New York to study flying: Juan Pablo and Eduardo Aldasoro, Alberto and Gustavo Salinas, and Horacio Ruiz. In 1913, they returned to Mexico not only as pioneers but also as teachers for the next generation of pilots.
