The Federal Palace Hotel is a 150-room hotel overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, located in the business district of Victoria Island, Lagos. The hotel was established in 1960 and is one of the country's leading international hotels, originally owned by Victoria Beach hotel, part of the A. G. Leventis trading group, and was considered an icon of Lagos Metropolis”.The Federal Palace Hotel is part ofSun International Hotels, Sun Internationalknown for its Sun City resort in the Rustenburg province of North Westwhich traces its history back to 1969 when South African Breweries and Sol Kerzner teamed up to form Southern Sun Hotels.

When Nigeria gained independence from Britain in 1960, it was in the main conference room of the newly built Federal Palace Hotel that Nigeria signed its independence declaration. This room is now one of the main features of the hotel's casino. The hotel's Independence Hall hosted official celebrations of Nigeria's independence in 1977, and the hall also hosted summits of African heads of state of the African Union (formerly the Organisation of African Unity) and the African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC).
