The Exhibition Value of the Shanghai Urban Expo
- An International Authority Co‑Developed by UN‑Habitat and the Shanghai Municipal Government: As a core thematic event of World Cities Day, the Urban Expo is co‑hosted by UN‑Habitat and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban–Rural Development. It serves as an international platform for showcasing China’s achievements in new‑type urbanization and a high‑end forum for global exchange and collaboration in urban development.
- A Comprehensive “6+4+N” Framework Covering the Entire Industry Chain: The expo adopts an integrated exhibition structure of “6+4+N,” featuring six major thematic zones—World Cities Day Special Zone, District‑Level Achievement Showcase, Artificial Intelligence Zone, Green and Low‑Carbon Zone, among others—and four industry‑specific sectors—Green Development, Urban Renewal, Smart Empowerment, and Resilient Cities. Exhibits span the full spectrum of the industry, including urban planning and design, green eco‑districts, prefabricated construction, ultra‑low‑energy buildings, historic building preservation, renovation of older residential areas, smart buildings, BIM technology, digital twins, water management projects, utility tunnels, sponge city initiatives, and disaster prevention and mitigation solutions.
- Focusing on Cutting‑Edge Trends in Green, Low‑Carbon, and Smart Development: Aligned with the dual‑carbon strategy, the expo highlights innovative advances in green architectural design and technologies, energy‑efficient building products, next‑generation materials, and ultra‑low‑energy construction. Germany’s pavilion showcased a modular construction robot conducting a live 3D‑printed demonstration of low‑carbon housing, while Singapore presented a model of a “Vertical Forest Community.” The Smart Empowerment Zone debuted a dedicated “Metaverse Pavilion,” employing virtual reality to simulate end‑to‑end processes for future cities in energy management, transportation planning, and ecological restoration.
- Bringing Together Industry Leaders to Showcase Pivotal Highlights: Leading enterprises such as Shanghai City Investment Group, Tunnel Shares, China State Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau, and San Ke Shu participated with core technologies and benchmark projects. Tunnel Shares unveiled its “Smart City Cloud” series—intelligent, end‑to‑end urban infrastructure maintenance solutions integrating satellite remote sensing, drones, and ground‑based sensors—to enable 360°, blind‑spot‑free health monitoring and early warning for roads, bridges, and tunnels. China State Construction Group introduced its “Good House” system, distilling over 60,000 customer testimonials into 172 targeted solutions addressing key pain points.
- More Than 30 High‑Profile Forums Providing Authoritative Insights: Concurrently held were flagship keynote sessions and a series of forums centered on the four key themes of renewal, intelligence, greenness, and resilience. These events released exemplary AI use cases in the housing and urban‑rural development sector, a map of typical green building cases under the 14th Five‑Year Plan, and other significant outcomes. Activities encompassed high‑level dialogues, talent matchmaking, industrial collaborations, and public education, creating a comprehensive platform for idea exchange and resource connection.
- Deep Integration of Global Vision and Regional Practice: The expo attracted over 800 exhibitors from more than 40 countries, with overseas participation exceeding 30%. The District‑Level Achievement Showcase featured distinctive practices from Shanghai’s 16 districts and the Lingang New Area, while leading host districts such as Pudong, Huangpu, and Jing’an presented differentiated thematic displays illustrating the tangible outcomes of people‑centered urban development. This provides a strategic gateway for companies seeking to deepen their presence in the Yangtze River Delta market and connect with global resources.
