Hong Kong International Book Fair Profile
The Hong Kong Book Fair is Asia’s largest and most influential book fair. Held annually since 1990, it has become a major summer event in Hong Kong, providing the publishing industry with a platform to promote new titles and offering readers the opportunity to discover fresh publications and meet their favorite authors. This year’s fair adopts “Food Culture · Future Living” as its annual theme, featuring more than 620 cultural events both inside and outside the exhibition halls. These include lectures by renowned authors from around the world, new‑book launch presentations, and a diverse array of multicultural activities, creating a grand literary feast and fostering a culture of reading.
To further position Hong Kong as a hub for Sino‑foreign cultural and artistic exchange, the Hong Kong Book Fair proudly presents the acclaimed “World Cultural and Artistic Gallery,” which aligns with this year’s theme. The “Table & Read” exhibition uses food as a bridge connecting cultures, inviting visitors to savor life and explore the world through the lens of dining. Eight artists have designed eight themed tables, each exploring topics such as food therapy, sustainability, table manners, festive cuisine, fermentation, sensory experiences, music, and art, while collaborating with consulates general from various countries to showcase relevant books and exhibits from across the globe.
For the first time this year, the fair introduces a Cultural and Creative Products Zone, offering interactive experiences highlighting Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage, alongside displays of Macao‑inspired creative products and exquisite imperial‑style文创 items from the Palace Museum. Meanwhile, the Mainland China Pavilion, with Sichuan as its featured province, will draw on the region’s rich history to present the multifaceted facets of Sichuan life through elements such as Sichuan cuisine, Sichuan opera, and Sichuan embroidery. In addition, the fair will host an International Publishing Forum, the Hong Kong Biennial Publishing Awards, and other industry‑wide networking events. An expanded IP Roundtable will also include business‑matching sessions to help participants identify new opportunities.
Each year, the Hong Kong Book Fair collaborates with numerous publishers and professional organizations to select a distinctive theme and organize a series of related activities. Primarily focused on on‑site book sales, the Hong Kong Book Fair serves as a counterpart to mainland China’s book fairs.
