World Energy Storage Expo (WESE)

The World Energy Storage Expo (WESE) will be held from October 14 to 16 in Ningde, Fujian Province. It is co-hosted by the Equipment Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Fujian Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, and the People’s Government of Ningde City. Continuing its enduring theme of “Zero Carbon·Technology,” the event adopts “Intelligent Storage, Green Momentum for the Globe” as its 2026 thematic focus.

The 2026 World Energy Storage Expo features a comprehensively upgraded content framework, expanded discussion dimensions, and an enhanced exchange platform. It meticulously organizes a “1+1+3+4+N” event structure, comprising one opening ceremony and main forum, one closed-door symposium, three specialized conferences, four thematic forums, and N distinctive activities. This creates a new expo format characterized by “top-level strategic guidance, in-depth closed-door discussions, precise implementation of specialized topics, and deep cultivation of niche segments.” Complemented by diverse branded events, industry exhibitions, targeted supply–demand matchmaking, and city‑level industrial visits, the expo fosters deep connections among cutting-edge insights, industrial resources, and real-world application scenarios.

Against the backdrop of the global carbon neutrality vision, the energy storage industry has evolved from ancillary equipment for power systems into a cornerstone of next-generation energy infrastructure, becoming a central strategic arena in major powers’ energy strategies and technological competitions. China has emerged as the world’s largest market for both energy storage manufacturing and applications; however, domestic intellectual property in this sector exhibits a pattern of “leading overall volume but structural imbalances and weak overseas presence.” Meanwhile, overseas patent thickets, cross-border infringement litigation, and disputes over essential patents under international standards continue to intensify. Coupled with uneven patent quality among domestic enterprises, insufficient overseas reserves, and limited operational translation capabilities, these IP-related shortcomings have become tangible bottlenecks hindering Chinese energy storage companies’ international expansion.

Drawing on a global dataset of over one million energy storage patents, this report conducts an in-depth analysis across multiple dimensions, including the global landscape, China’s practices, trend assessments, existing challenges, and recommended countermeasures. By establishing a tripartite analytical framework integrating “intellectual property data + industry market data + policy and standards data,” the study directly addresses pressing domestic IP issues, systematically dissects overseas patent barriers and internal development constraints, and formulates actionable recommendations at the policy, corporate, and institutional levels.
