As the global energy transition accelerates, promoting energy transformation and building a new power system have become universal priorities. As a core component for coordinating source‑grid‑load‑storage interactions and balancing dynamic electricity supply and demand, advanced energy storage has emerged as a critical enabler for achieving the national strategies of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality. Following sustained policy support during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the 14th Five-Year Plan has further strengthened policy guidance, industrial incentives, and demonstration projects, propelling the sector from its early commercialization phase into large-scale deployment and ushering in a period of rapid growth driven by robust internal momentum.

With the passage of the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act, persistently high European electricity futures prices, and China’s mandatory energy storage requirements serving as a floor, it is projected that by 2025, wind and solar power will account for more than 20% of global electricity generation, while in China this share will approach 18%. Correspondingly, annual new energy storage capacity additions worldwide and domestically are expected to exceed 90 GW and 35 GW, respectively. By 2030, China’s wind and solar share could rise to nearly 30%, potentially pushing annual new energy storage demand beyond 60 GW. The energy storage value chain encompasses key segments such as critical materials, battery cells and systems, inverter integration, thermal management and fire safety, regulatory oversight and operations, application demonstrations, and recycling—each undergoing iterative upgrades in products, applications, and business models, thereby creating innovative opportunities for scalable, comprehensive, and high-quality development.

As a nationally strategic emerging industry aligned with green energy systems and next-generation power grids, advanced energy storage still grapples with pressing challenges, including an incomplete standards framework, limited demonstration application scenarios, imperfect trading mechanisms, and critical technological or process bottlenecks yet to be resolved. To support the rapid, high‑quality, and sustainable growth of this sector, a premier platform for industry-wide dialogue and knowledge sharing has been established. Thus, the China International Energy Storage Conference & Smart Energy Storage Technology Exhibition (CESC) was conceived.
