The Value of Participating in the World Dental Congress
- The Shanghai Dental Equipment Exhibition (FDI WDC) is the largest and most authoritative comprehensive event in the global dental field, hosted by the FDI World Dental Federation. Often referred to as the “Olympics of Dentistry,” it serves as a key indicator of trends across the industry. Founded in 1900, the FDI represents over one million dentists from more than 140 countries and regions. Its annual congress is universally recognized as the premier academic and commercial platform in the dental world. The 2025 edition held in Shanghai marked China’s return to this prestigious event after a 19-year absence, symbolizing the growing prominence of China’s dental industry on the global stage.
- The core value of participation lies in its role as a bridge connecting the world’s leading resources in dental medicine. The 2025 congress drew over 10,000 dental professionals from 142 countries and regions, with attendance exceeding 30,000. Spanning 60,000 square meters, the exhibition brought together 700 exhibiting companies. The professional audience included dentists, distributors, and hospital procurement decision-makers, offering businesses a strategic gateway to engage directly with key global buyers.
- The event provides a one-stop commercial platform covering the entire dental supply chain. Exhibits range from dental treatment equipment and imaging systems to digital solutions, implant materials, prosthetic fabrication, and infection-control devices. In 2025, the exhibition introduced three specialized zones: an academic-industrial collaboration area, a new-product launch zone, and a future-clinic experience zone. Top institutions such as Peking University School of Stomatology and West China School of Stomatology at Sichuan University made their debut, showcasing the latest scientific advances in Chinese dentistry. The new-product launch zone gathered cutting-edge global innovations, with over a dozen product launches highlighting smart diagnostic tools and digital solutions.
- The event brings together leading international brands and innovative forces, creating a stronghold of brand value. International brands like Haleon, Listerine, LION, and Colgate competed alongside hundreds of Chinese manufacturers. Meiya Optoelectronics, a pioneer in China’s dental imaging sector, unveiled its first intelligent oral imaging system, “Meiya Yingqing,” and the intraoral scanning device “MyScan5,” helping to build a new ecosystem for smart dental care. China Dental Valley organized 37 companies to participate collectively, achieving cumulative sales exceeding RMB 10 million and securing RMB 30 million in preliminary orders during the event.
- The event aligns with three major industry trends—AI-assisted healthcare, digital diagnostics, and new material applications—establishing a technological hub where academia, industry, and clinical practice converge. For the first time, AI was employed for real-time translation, while over 300 domestic and international experts contributed more than 200 academic lectures, addressing topics ranging from clinical innovation to the integration of cutting-edge technologies. Specialized forums such as the Digital Dentistry Symposium and the Oral Public Health Symposium explored pressing industry issues in depth. The future-clinic experience zone leveraged VR, intelligent navigation, and 3D printing to simulate next-generation dental care, enabling attendees to immerse themselves in fully digitized workflows.
- For Chinese enterprises, this event serves as a strategic gateway to expand into global markets, connect with international resources, and achieve overseas brand expansion. The 2025 congress received a record-breaking 3,396 submissions worldwide, signaling China’s accelerated shift from a “technology follower” to a “standard setter.” Companies from China Dental Valley secured five high-quality cooperative projects through the event, while the Ziyang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone team engaged with nearly 20 international firms, successfully finalizing several preliminary collaborations. Zhonghui Technology showcased its digital virtual simulation training system for dentistry, partnering deeply with top institutions such as Peking University School of Stomatology and West China School of Stomatology at Sichuan University, demonstrating China’s strength in digitally transforming dental education. Through this platform, participating companies can access global procurement networks and seize early opportunities in the智能化 transformation of dental healthcare.

Review
The 2025 FDI World Dental Congress (FDI WDC) was successfully held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from September 9 to 12, 2025. Hosted by the FDI World Dental Federation and co-organized by the Chinese Stomatological Association and Sinopharm Reed Exhibitions, this event marked the return of this premier global dental congress to China after a 19-year hiatus.
In terms of scale, the congress attracted over 10,000 dental professionals from 142 FDI member countries and regions, with more than 30,000 attendees and visitors—setting a new record for FDI events. The exhibition spanned 60,000 square meters, showcasing products from over 400 companies, making it one of the largest trade shows in FDI history. A total of 3,396 submissions were received, breaking all previous records; 12 electronic poster stations displayed 1,281 selected abstracts, while 10 presentation zones provided oral presentation opportunities for 906 authors.
This year’s show featured numerous highlights, with AI technology and digitalization taking center stage. For the first time, AI-powered real-time translation was deployed, earning widespread acclaim from participants. The exhibition area included three distinctive sections: an academic-industrial collaboration zone, a new-product launch zone, and a future-clinic experience zone. More than ten leading institutions, including Peking University School of Stomatology and West China School of Stomatology at Sichuan University, made their debut, presenting cutting-edge advancements in Chinese dental science. The future-clinic experience zone utilized VR, intelligent navigation, 3D printing, and other technologies to create immersive scenarios of next-generation dental care, allowing attendees to experience fully digitized workflows. Meanwhile, the new-product launch zone showcased groundbreaking innovations such as smart diagnostic devices and digital solutions, with over a dozen product launches highlighting these breakthrough technologies.
Chinese exhibitors delivered outstanding performances, with innovative products drawing significant attention. Meiya Optoelectronics unveiled its first intelligent oral imaging system, “Meiya Yingqing,” along with the intraoral scanning device “MyScan5,” establishing a new ecosystem for smart dental diagnosis and treatment. China Dental Valley brought together 37 companies—including Align Technology, Deyao, and Borndent—for a collective exhibit spanning 165 square meters, generating cumulative sales exceeding RMB 10 million during the event, securing RMB 30 million in preliminary orders, and locking in five high-quality collaborative projects. Borndent’s S500 comprehensive dental treatment unit, featuring a tri-fold design and advanced smart functions, has already garnered nearly ten orders; Hena Intelligent Manufacturing’s novel PEEK dental material became a major draw in the exhibition area; and Bellif’s implant chair sold over 30 units on its opening day. Zhonghui Technology presented a digital virtual simulation training system for dentistry, forging deep partnerships with top institutions such as Peking University School of Stomatology and West China School of Stomatology at Sichuan University.
A rich array of concurrent events created a high-level platform for industry exchange. More than 300 domestic and international experts delivered over 200 academic lectures, covering clinical innovation and the integration of cutting-edge technologies. A special Young Scholars Forum was established to encourage emerging dental talent worldwide to share their research findings. Thematic forums such as the Digital Dentistry Symposium, the Oral Public Health Symposium, and the Symposium on Innovation in Dental Education and Training delved deeply into pressing industry issues. At the opening ceremony, 6,000 attendees filled the venue to capacity; following Olympic tradition, the names of all 148 member countries were announced—one by one—and when “China” was called out, the entire audience rose to applaud, waving national flags. The stirring rendition of “Ode to the Motherland” resonated throughout the hall, marking one of the most moving moments in FDI congress history.
The outcomes of the event and the industry’s response have been overwhelmingly positive. Exhibiting companies generally reported that this year’s congress attracted highly qualified professional audiences with clear purchasing intentions, underscoring China’s rapid transition from a “technology follower” to a “standard setter” in the dental field. The Ziyang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone team visited nearly 20 internationally renowned enterprises, successfully securing multiple preliminary cooperation agreements. Attendees emphasized that the FDI WDC is not only an excellent platform for brand exposure and business matchmaking but also a critical hub for understanding global trends in the dental sector and exploring pathways for AI-driven transformation in clinical practice.
The next FDI World Dental Congress will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai in September 2026, expected to continue providing an efficient platform for global dialogue within the dental community.
