China (Beijing) International Horticultural ExhibitionProfile

The China Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition (Hortiflorexpo IPM Beijing) is Asia’s most authoritative trade show dedicated to flowers, horticulture, and landscape design. With a distinct international character, strong trade orientation, high level of credibility, and professional focus, it has become a premier global event eagerly attended by industry professionals from both home and abroad. Held alternately in Shanghai and Beijing, the exhibition is organized by the China Flower Association. Backed by an excellent reputation and continuous innovation, it has consistently earned widespread support and acclaim within the industry over the years.

Spanning approximately 40,000 square meters, the China Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition brings together nearly 700 enterprises and institutions from more than 20 countries and regions, including China, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Lithuania, India, North Korea, Thailand, and others. The event attracts over 90,000 visitors, steadily enhancing its international profile and reinforcing its standing as a leading industry brand.

This edition features a dedicated new‑variety showcase, highlighting nearly 300 floral cultivars—including cut flowers, potted plants, and garden flora. Notably, domestically bred varieties account for roughly 30% of potted plants and over 40% of cut flowers, underscoring China’s robust innovation capacity in flower breeding.

In addition, Guilin City in Guangxi, together with the Osmanthus Branch of the China Flower Association, has assembled a delegation of more than thirty enterprises, presenting a diverse array of osmanthus potted plants, osmanthus‑based food products, skincare items, and creative cultural merchandise. Meanwhile, Nanjing County in Fujian showcases its signature national orchids, while Hainan Provincial Forestry Bureau has organized exhibitors to highlight Hainan’s cut‑leaf products and tropical orchids, thereby highlighting the region’s distinctive industrial strengths. Such specialized group exhibitions not only amplify promotional impact but also help forge regional identities and build competitive advantages for local industries.

Among international participants, the Dutch delegation stands out as the largest, comprising 36 exhibitors occupying nearly 1,000 square meters. Their offerings span plant varieties, growing media, greenhouse equipment, and advisory services. Additionally, the German delegation and the IPM Pavilion have drawn companies from Germany, India, North Korea, France, and other nations, injecting fresh international vitality into the event.

Domestically, the largest contingents hail from Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, Anhui, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jiangsu, and Hong Kong. Beyond the geographical advantages of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region, Shandong and Jiangsu—key producers of ornamental flowers and related materials—send sizable delegations of professionals seeking business opportunities, while Liaoning, Heilongjiang, and Hong Kong are primarily represented by buyers.

As a flagship event for the floriculture and horticulture sectors, the China Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition (Hortiflorexpo IPM Beijing) brings together cutting-edge varieties and technologies from around the globe, serving as a vital bridge connecting upstream and downstream resources across the industry chain. It provides attendees with unique opportunities to gain insights into emerging trends, forge strategic partnerships, and refine their technical expertise. Let us look forward to our next gathering, embarking together on a new chapter in the world of flowers and horticulture!

The Exhibition Value of the China International Horticultural Expo

  • The Beijing International Horticultural Expo is one of Asia’s largest, most renowned, and most commercially successful specialized horticultural exhibitions. It has been officially accredited by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and serves as a leading indicator of trends in China’s floral and horticultural sectors. Organized by the China Flower Association with Deutsche Messe AG as its international partner, the expo has been held annually since 1998, now reaching its 26th edition. With its distinct international scope, strong trade orientation, authoritative standing, and professional focus, it has become a globally recognized flagship event within the domestic and international horticultural community.
  • The core value of participation lies in its role as a highly targeted platform for connecting with key domestic and international buyers. The exhibition showcases products spanning the entire industry chain—including cut flowers, potted plants, bulbs, seedlings, greenhouse equipment, landscape machinery, and floristry supplies—drawing professional buyers from across China, such as flower producers, wholesalers, retailers, florists, and landscape‑engineering firms. In 2024, over 60% of attendees were industry professionals, with significant representation from Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, Guangdong, and other regions. International visitors came from nearly 60 countries and territories, including Russia, India, the Netherlands, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Thailand, Kenya, and more.
  • The expo has established an international trade platform that links global markets, concentrating high‑caliber exhibitors and international delegations. In 2024, the event attracted more than 700 exhibitors from over 20 countries and regions, including the Netherlands, Germany, South Korea, India, Italy, Spain, Poland, the United States, Israel, Japan, and others. The Dutch delegation occupied over 1,000 square meters, with 38 participating companies—a record high—while the German IPM International Pavilion brought together 17 enterprises. Delegations from Ecuador, Colombia, and other nations also made their presence felt. International giants such as Orange Domen, Dr. Stork, Syngenta Flowers, Anzu, Fornari, and Sion were all represented, with Europe’s three leading Phalaenopsis orchid breeders appearing together on Chinese soil for the first time, underscoring the immense appeal of the Chinese market.
  • Keeping pace with industry trends toward “new varieties, new channels, and new concepts,” the expo has created a cutting‑edge hub for deep integration among industry, academia, research, and application. At the 2024 edition, more than 1,000 innovative floral varieties were showcased, with a dedicated New Variety Showcase area presenting nearly 400 new cultivars of cut flowers, potted plants, and garden species—covering both indoor/outdoor applications and trending “internet‑famous” plant categories. Concurrently, high‑level forums were held, including the China–Netherlands Horticulture Forum, the Greenhouse Technology Forum, e‑commerce sharing sessions, and a salon for florist entrepreneurs. Leaders from platforms such as Taobao, Tmall, JD.com, Douyin, Meituan, and Xiaohongshu shared strategies for online operations and explored pathways for seamless integration between offline and online channels.
  • The expo has pioneered a multi‑channel, integrated communication matrix, dramatically boosting brand visibility for exhibiting companies. In 2024, the expo collaborated closely with Xiaohongshu, partnering with nearly 200 plant‑ and home‑related influencers to promote the event. A “One Square Meter at Home” check‑in campaign was launched, generating 3,347 related posts on Xiaohongshu with a total reach of 14.65 million impressions. Major media outlets—including Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, CCTV.com, and Guangming Online—provided on‑site coverage, creating a comprehensive “text + image + video + live stream” communication ecosystem that significantly amplified the brand impact of participating enterprises.
  • For Chinese enterprises, this expo represents a strategic gateway for showcasing technological prowess, forging global connections, and expanding into both domestic and international markets. As the home‑gardening market continues to flourish, with emerging new varieties, innovative distribution channels, and evolving consumer preferences, exhibitors can leverage this platform to connect with international breeders, facility suppliers, e‑commerce platforms, and other key stakeholders, seizing early opportunities in the era of consumption upgrading. According to the 2024 exhibitor satisfaction survey, 85% of participants expressed satisfaction with the overall exhibition experience, 73% rated the quality of attendees as excellent, and 98% indicated their intention to participate again.

Exhibition Review

The 27th China International Horticultural Exposition 2025 was successfully held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from April 10 to 12, 2025. Hosted by the China Flower Association and themed “Smart Innovation Ushers in Spring, Flowers Shine Across the Globe,” this edition is Asia’s largest and most internationally diverse flagship event in the horticultural sector.

In terms of scale, the exhibition area exceeded 50,000 square meters for the first time, attracting approximately 700 brand-name enterprises from nearly 30 countries and regions, including the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Israel, Sweden, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and France. The event is expected to draw 80,000 visitors. International exhibitors accounted for nearly 26% of the total, underscoring the immense appeal of China’s vast market to the global community.

This year’s exposition reached new heights in internationalization, with several leading horticultural nations participating as national pavilions. The Dutch and German pavilions showcased cutting-edge greenhouse technologies, automated horticultural equipment, and innovative flower varieties, highlighting future trends in modern horticulture. Meanwhile, the Japanese delegation presented exquisitely crafted cut-flower products, exemplifying refined, artful floricultural techniques. Renowned international companies such as Anzhu, Drusch, Banali, Syngenta, Xileida, Ridder, and Priva were also in attendance.

For the first time, domestic specialty pavilions were featured, with five regional delegations—Yunnan Province, Guangdong Province, Heze City, Huzhou City, and Quanzhou City—making a collective appearance. The Yunnan delegation launched its “Yunhua” brand portfolio, introducing high-altitude flowers, Phalaenopsis orchids, roses, and other distinctive offerings. The Guangdong pavilion highlighted tropical and subtropical flora unique to southern China, featuring an array of novel ornamental trees, colorful foliage plants, tropical bird-of-paradise, red banana trees, and hydrangeas. The Heze Peony and Chinese Herbaceous Peony Pavilion showcased best-selling peony and herbaceous peony varieties, while the Huzhou delegation exhibited premium roses, lilies, succulents, and other high-quality blooms. The Quanzhou delegation focused on Southern-style Phalaenopsis orchids and other regionally distinctive flowers.

New product launches emerged as key highlights of the expo. Binfen Horticulture unveiled the “Langqin” cut-rose—a multi-colored, multi-headed variety with stable hues and minimal thorns, combining aesthetic appeal with strong market potential. Kunming Anzhu Flower introduced the Sankazadar Phalaenopsis orchid for the first time in Shanghai, evoking the ethereal beauty of Croatian sunrises and sunsets through its dreamlike color palette. Germany’s Banali launched a new line of home‑garden products tailored to the Chinese market, while its self‑developed Rieger Begonia “Soraya” made its debut—boasting robust resilience, heat tolerance, and drought resistance. Meanwhile, the Guangzhou Flower Research Center presented newly bred Anthurium varieties—including Meijiao, Fumei, Caidie, Dajiao—and a new pineapple cultivar named Hong Ruyi.

Technology-driven innovation became a central attraction of the expo. Beijing Jingpeng Global Technology unveiled an intelligent greenhouse system capable of precisely managing temperature, light, water, air, and nutrients to optimize plant growth and regulate flowering and fruiting cycles. Zhejiang Fengdao Co., Ltd. employed advanced techniques to infuse edible pigments into flower petals, producing vividly colored blooms. Kress’s borderless smart lawn‑mowing robot ensured efficient maintenance of expansive green spaces, while Unitree Robotics engaged visitors in interactive flower‑appreciation sessions. Guizhou Qianxinan Greenery Plant & Animal Technology Co., Ltd. enhanced the advantageous traits of Paphiopedilum orchids through manual pollination, helping to preserve and expand rare species.

A rich array of concurrent events enlivened the exposition. During the fair, more than 30 specialized forums were held, including the China–Netherlands Horticultural Forum, the Greenhouse Forum, the Flower Border Forum, the Florist Forum, and the Landscape Architecture Forum. A floral‑art performance titled “Future Flower World” brought together renowned masters of Chinese flower arranging, Japanese ikebana, German natural‑style arrangements, and children’s floral creations. For the first time, the expo also introduced an “Enterprise Promotion Salon” format to facilitate precise supply‑demand matching, along with a dedicated livestreaming zone where staff combined traditional attire with online broadcasts to promote products.

The expo yielded significant outcomes and received enthusiastic industry acclaim. Xinyangfeng Horticulture, making its debut at the event, launched a social‑media “check‑in for gifts” campaign, generating a cumulative online reach of 1.433 million impressions and drawing over 1,500 targeted visitors. Attendees widely agreed that this edition not only served as an outstanding platform for brand exposure and business matchmaking but also functioned as a pivotal hub for discerning industry trends and exploring pathways toward digital transformation. Through this floral showcase, China’s “flower economy” continues to blossom, flourishing anew with each passing day.
