Shanghai International Conference and Exhibition on Long-Duration Energy Storage Technologies

From June 11 to 13, 2025, the 14th Shanghai International Long‑Duration Energy Storage Technology Conference and Exhibition (LDES Expo 2025) was successfully held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. Co‑located with GPOWER’s 24th Power Equipment Exhibition, EPOWER’s 25th All‑Electric Exhibition, and IDCE’s 11th Data Center Exhibition, the event was themed “Focusing on the Future of Power and Energy” and has become a premier annual gathering for the global long‑duration energy storage industry.

In terms of scale, this edition set new records, with an exhibition area of 52,000 square meters, 927 exhibiting companies, and 37,525 professional visitors. Among them, 2,633 international visitors from 72 countries and regions played a vital role in fostering global exchanges. The venue buzzed with activity, as the number of exhibitors reached an all‑time high. From internationally renowned brands and leading domestic enterprises to emerging startups, the show showcased cutting‑edge products and technological breakthroughs across the entire spectrum—ranging from fundamental components to advanced application solutions—in the fields of long‑duration energy storage, flow batteries, power equipment, generator sets, and next‑generation power systems.

This year’s exhibition featured numerous highlights, with leading flow battery manufacturers taking center stage as the main attraction. Prominent players such as Dalian Borong, Weilide Energy, Dalì Energy Storage, Beijing Lvfan, XinXin Vanadium‑Titanium, Zhonghai Energy Storage, Shanghai Electric, Huantai Energy Storage, Xingchen New Energy, and Yunda Zhichu made their debut, unveiling innovative products and comprehensive solutions. Exhibitors spanned the full value chain of flow batteries, covering core components—including stacks, electrodes, membranes, electrolytes, and bipolar plates—as well as ancillary systems like energy storage inverters, battery management systems, and energy management systems, thereby presenting a holistic panorama of the industry’s “materials–manufacturing–applications–recycling” ecosystem.

A rich array of concurrent events further elevated the platform for industry dialogue and collaboration. During the exhibition, more than one hundred thematic presentations were delivered, including the Second China Electrical Industry Development Forum—featuring nine sub‑forums such as the Flow Battery Technology Development Sub‑Forum—alongside the Sixth Green Energy Conference for Data Centers and the Second Intelligent Computing Full‑Stack Technology Conference. The Flow Battery Technology Development Forum was chaired by Guo Yan, Secretary-General of the National Technical Committee on Standardization for Flow Batteries, with opening remarks by Zhang Qiuhong, Chief Engineer of the China Electrical Industry Association. Thirteen distinguished experts—including Zhang Huamin, Chief Researcher at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Wang Xiaoli, General Manager of Dalian Rongke Energy Storage; Yang Linlin, General Manager of Shanghai Electric Energy Storage; Chen Jijun, Chairman of Sichuan Weilide Energy; Shi Xiaohu, General Manager of Dalì Energy Storage; Liu Zongyu, Deputy General Manager of Chengde XinXin Vanadium‑Titanium Energy Storage; Zhang Jiale, General Manager of Shanxi Guorun Energy Storage; Yang Dawei, Chairman of Suzhou Kerun New Materials; and Wu Xiongwei, General Manager of Hunan YinFeng New Energy—presented keynote reports addressing critical topics such as flow battery R&D, industrial applications, cost control, and material innovation. The forum concluded that, thanks to their superior safety, extended service life, and environmental friendliness, flow batteries have emerged as a cornerstone technology for large‑scale energy storage. With the implementation of NDRC Document No. 136, which abolishes mandatory energy‑storage requirements, the potential of flow batteries in next‑generation power systems is poised to expand even further.

The professional visitor base was exceptionally strong, with an unprecedented level of international participation. The event attracted decision‑makers from State Grid, Southern Power Grid, provincial power companies, research institutes, power generation groups, power‑plant investors, EPC contractors, data center operators, petrochemical firms, metallurgical enterprises, and other end‑users. Organizers also hosted overseas procurement matchmaking sessions, inviting professional buyers from 72 countries and regions to help exhibitors broaden their international market reach.

The outcomes of the exhibition and the industry’s response were highly positive. Exhibiting companies widely reported the high quality of professional visitors and their clear purchasing intent, noting significant results from on‑site business negotiations. Mig New Materials, for instance, unveiled its newly developed channel‑electrode material, drawing keen interest from numerous clients. Its carbon felt channels effectively enhance electrolyte distribution and reduce concentration polarization, while customized cuts ensure 100% utilization of the product. Companies emphasized that the exhibition provided a one‑stop platform for showcasing innovations, aligning with market demands, and connecting with global resources—playing a pivotal role in accelerating the commercialization of flow battery energy storage technologies. Attendees agreed that LDES Expo not only serves as an outstanding venue for brand promotion and business matchmaking but also functions as a critical hub for discerning global trends in long‑duration energy storage and exploring pathways toward the industrialization of flow batteries.
