Wembley Stadium
Wembley Stadium
Wembley Stadium is a professional football stadium located in Wembley, London, England. With a seating capacity of 90,000, it ranks as the second-largest stadium in Europe, following Camp Nou. The stadium boasts the largest roof area of any venue globally, and from the stands, visitors can overlook Wembley Arena. Following its reopening, it is commonly designated as the "New Wembley Stadium" to distinguish it from the original structure.
The original Wembley Stadium was completed in 1923 and was nicknamed the "Empire Stadium." It was once a world-renowned football venue and, due to its location in England's capital, served as the official home ground for the England national football team. It hosted the European Cup (now the UEFA Champions League) final five times and was one of the 17 venues selected for FIFA World Cup finals. Construction of the new stadium commenced in 2003, with the original structure subsequently demolished. Initially slated for completion in 2006, the project was delayed until early 2007 and was officially completed on March 9, 2007, at which point ownership was transferred to The Football Association.
