Profile
The China International Import Expo (CIIE), hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, is organized by the CIIE Bureau, with cooperation from the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.
The China International Import Expo (CIIE) was personally planned, proposed, deployed, and promoted by President Xi Jinping. It represents a major decision by the CPC Central Committee to advance high-standard opening-up in the new era, a significant step for China to proactively open its market to the world, and a pragmatic action to build an open world economy and support economic globalization. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to it; since its inaugural edition in 2018, President Xi Jinping has attended each session and delivered a keynote address.
The China International Import Expo (CIIE promotes connectivity between Chinese and global markets, integration of industries, mutual innovation, and alignment of rules. It has become a demonstration window for the new development paradigm, a platform for advancing high-standard opening-up, an effective carrier for high-quality development, and a major stage for multilateralism. Its four core functions—international procurement, investment promotion, cultural exchange, and open cooperation—are increasingly prominent, enhancing its role as a global public good and earning widespread acclaim at home and abroad.
With exhibitors worldwide viewing the CIIE as a gateway where exhibitors transform into investors, this reflects China’s rapid development and our unwavering confidence in the Chinese market. The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is a major initiative by the Chinese government to firmly support trade liberalization and economic globalization while proactively opening its market to the world. It facilitates stronger economic and trade exchanges among nations, boosts global trade and economic growth, and advances the development of an open world economy.
The China International Import Expo (CIIE) warmly welcomes dignitaries, business leaders, exhibitors, and professional buyers from around the globe to participate and expand their presence in the Chinese market. We stand ready to work together with countries and international organizations to elevate the China International Import Expo (CIIE) into a world-class expo, opening new channels for international trade and cooperation, and fostering shared prosperity for the global economy and trade.(Copyright of this article belongs to Juzhan. Reasons to Exhibit at the CIIE
I. Market Dimension: The CIIE is not merely an exhibition but the world’s premier “mass order generator.”
- High-Caliber Buyers: The 8th edition brought together 43 trade delegations and over 700 sub-delegations, with more than 460,000 registered professional visitors—an increase of 7% year-on-year.
- Strong Transaction Track Record: Intended deal value reached US$83.49 billion on an annualized basis, hitting a historic high. Individual intentions by the Shanghai delegation alone surpassed US$10 billion, topping the list for eight consecutive years.
- Comprehensive Channel Access: Chain retailers, leading e-commerce platforms, and state-owned enterprises have set up procurement corridors, while trade and investment matchmaking events resulted in over 300 cooperation intentions in a single session. What you gain here is not business cards but actual orders.
II. Innovation Dimension: The CIIE provides companies with the most efficient validation and profit-generating platform for global debuts.
- High Debut Density: The 8th edition unveiled 461 “three-new” achievements, including 201 global premieres. From the “world’s smallest X-ray machine” to the “lightest foldable smartphone,” top-tier companies use this stage to determine their products’ destinies.
- Rapid Commercialization: Through the “Export to China” brand and year-round display/trading platforms, exhibits can seamlessly connect to the Chinese market, entering sales channels directly via the CIIE window.
- Accurate Trend Sensing: Consumer hotspots such as the “silver economy,” “pet economy,” and “low-carbon weight management” are centrally validated at the CIIE, making it the best observatory for understanding China’s consumption upgrade trends.
III. Strategic Dimension: The CIIE is the only international economic and trade platform continuously personally orchestrated by the highest national leadership.
- Direct Access to Top Leadership: Leaders tour pavilions, and the Premier attends the opening ceremony to deliver keynote speeches, providing companies with rare opportunities for face-to-face communication with policymakers.
- Gathering of Headquarters Decision-Makers: Nearly one hundred multinational company and association executives attended, while over ten leading enterprises moved board meetings or senior management sessions directly into the “Four-Leaf Clover” venue. Simply attending sends the strongest signal to global headquarters about the priority of the Chinese market.
- Participation in Rule-Making: The Hongqiao Forum delves deeply into global economic governance and publishes the World Openness Report. Exhibiting is not just doing business—it is participating in shaping international economic and trade discourse.
IV. Ecological Dimension: Beyond the exhibition period, the CIIE serves as a year-round gateway for ecological traffic.
- Urban Dividends: Shanghai mobilizes citywide resources to ensure support, prioritizing institutional innovations such as the “Entry Pass” for entry-exit procedures, visa facilitation at ports, and bonded display/trading pilot programs at the CIIE.
- Continuous Extension: Immediately following the expo, the “CIIE Premium Products Fair” connects seamlessly; recruitment for the 9th edition is already underway, forming a rolling cycle of “year-round exhibition + centralized purchasing.”
- Cultural Breakthrough: For the first time, 50,000 members of the general public were invited to attend, with supporting events like consumer carnivals and Silk Road Cloud Product E-commerce Months converting CIIE traffic directly into incremental urban consumption.

Review
The 8th China International Import Expo was successfully held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, 2025, under the theme “New Era, Shared Future.” This edition of the CIIE was the first major economic and diplomatic event following the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. It thoroughly implemented President Xi Jinping’s important instructions that “China is the only developing country that continues to open its market to the world,” achieved the goal of becoming “better with each iteration,” and injected positive, predictable momentum into the global economy.
Record-Breaking Scale and Quality: The Country Exhibition attracted participants from 67 countries, while the China Pavilion showcased a record-breaking 570 exhibits, including the CR450 high-speed train, highlighting new drivers of productivity. The Enterprise Exhibition spanned over 367,000 square meters, bringing together 4,108 companies from 138 countries and regions, among which 290 were Fortune Global 500 firms or industry leaders, and 180 had attended all eight sessions. A total of 922,000 visitors entered the venue, and intended deals reached US$83.49 billion on an annualized basis, up 4.4% year-on-year—a new historical high.
Debut Performances Leading Innovation: A total of 461 new products, technologies, and services made their debut, including 201 global premieres. World-leading innovations such as non-invasive health screening devices and the smallest X-ray machine chose the CIIE for their global launch. The share of AI and humanoid robots significantly increased, turning China’s vast market into a global testing ground for innovative applications.
Hongqiao Forum Building Consensus: Under the theme “Openness for New Opportunities, Cooperation for a Shared Future,” the forum put into practice four major initiatives, including global governance, and released the five-year findings of the World Openness Report. The report noted that China’s openness index rose against the trend, contributing valuable insights to safeguarding the multilateral trading system.
Platform Functions Continuously Amplified: Premier Li Qiang attended the opening ceremony and launched the “Shared Big Market · Export to China” series of activities, driving coordinated efforts across trade, investment, and consumption. Forty-three trade delegations facilitated intensive signing events; the Shanghai delegation alone secured US$10.62 billion in intended deals, leading for the eighth consecutive year. Supporting events, cultural exchanges, the “CIIE Expert” smart service platform, and urban support measures were comprehensively optimized. For the first time, the “Export to China” brand was established, social audiences were invited to attend, and the CIIE Premium Products Fair plan was unveiled, significantly enhancing spillover effects.
Currently, the contracted exhibition space for the 9th CIIE has exceeded 80,000 square meters. The CIIE is accelerating its transformation into a window for fostering a new development paradigm, a high-standard platform for opening-up, and an international public good shared globally.
