Suzhou Shengze International Convention and Exhibition Center

The Suzhou Shengze International Convention and Exhibition Center project has a floor area ratio of approximately 0.49 and a total investment of RMB 140 million.It occupies a site of about 51,660 square meters, with a total floor area of 38,657 square meters. The single, unified exhibition space spans 10,000 square meters, and the building’s overall height is 35 meters.The site is exceptionally well‑planned and offers convenient access, making it ideally suited for hosting a wide range of trade shows and exhibitions.

Silkworm cocoons and silk are the very foundation of Shengze’s urban development and the source of its pride as the “Capital of Silk.” The international convention and exhibition center will echo this theme, adopting the name “City Cocoon.” According to the master plan, the facility integrates the characteristics of the new urban district, drawing inspiration from Shengze’s rich silk heritage. By elegantly transforming the imagery of silkworm cocoons and silk—central elements in traditional handcrafted silk production—and responding to the site’s unique topography, the design articulates the concept “Gathering Shengze’s Brocades, Weaving the Splendor of the Silk Capital.” The building’s exterior is conceived as a “terrestrial tapestry,” seamlessly integrated with the surrounding landscape, evoking the image of silk gently draped over the earth. The exhibition space itself takes the form of a silkworm cocoon, enveloped in sumptuous brocade, embodying the “City Cocoon”—a symbol that nurtures Shengze’s silk culture and underpins its reputation as the “Capital of Silk.” This metaphor suggests that today’s “City Cocoon” will give rise to even greater opportunities for growth, painting a bright vision for Shengze’s future.

Standing 35 meters tall, the “City Cocoon” features a west‑side forecourt—a dynamic ensemble of water features and an outdoor exhibition area—that serves as the primary pedestrian circulation axis, adjacent to the city’s new central axis. Vehicle traffic is routed along the perimeter of the main urban thoroughfare, while loading and underground parking flows are strategically organized on the east side, ensuring complete separation of pedestrian and vehicular movements. As depicted in the renderings, the entire complex unfolds like a swath of silk, extending into the landscape and blending harmoniously with the terrain. Water features and ground‑level landscaping accentuate the soft, flowing texture of silk, while the sinuous waterways also evoke Shengze’s quintessential Jiangnan water‑town character, where tradition, culture, water, and silk converge to create a vibrant, ever‑renewing natural tableau. Beyond providing state‑of‑the‑art facilities for Shengze’s diverse textile exhibitions, the center will also cultivate an ecologically valuable recreational landscape.
