The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is the world's first national-level exhibition themed on imports. The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, organized by the China International Import Expo Bureau, and supported by cooperating organizations including the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The CIIE was personally conceived, proposed, deployed, and promoted by President Xi Jinping. It represents a major decision by the CPC Central Committee to advance high-standard opening-up in the new era, a significant initiative for China to proactively open its market to the world, and a pragmatic action to foster an open world economy and support economic globalization. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to the Expo. Since its inaugural edition in 2018, President Xi Jinping has personally attended and delivered keynote speeches at every edition.

The CIIE facilitates market connectivity, industrial integration, mutual promotion of innovation, and rule alignment between China and the world. It has become a demonstration window for the new development paradigm, a platform for advancing high-standard opening-up, an effective carrier for high-quality development, and a major stage for multilateralism. Its four major platform functions—international procurement, investment promotion, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and open cooperation—are increasingly prominent. As an international public good, its role continues to expand, earning widespread acclaim both domestically and internationally.

Global exhibitors look to the CIIE, with many transitioning from "exhibitors" to "investors," reflecting China's rapid development and underlying firm confidence in the Chinese market. The CIIE is a major initiative by the Chinese government to firmly support trade liberalization and economic globalization and proactively open its market to the world. It helps strengthen economic and trade exchanges and cooperation among countries, promotes global trade and economic growth, and drives the development of an open world economy.
