Highlights of the Shanghai Building & Decoration Expo
- China’s Premier High-End Customization Show in East China: Established in 1999 and organized by the China Foreign Trade Center, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Commerce, the event made its debut at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai in 2015. Positioned as an “international platform for high-end customization,” it brings together over 800 industry brands and attracts 120,000 professional visitors, making it the flagship opening‑of‑the‑year event for China’s high-end custom home‑furnishing sector.
- Deep Empowerment through the Exhibition‑Store Alliance: In strategic partnership with Red Star Macalline, the expo has pioneered an innovative “exhibition‑store synergy” model, leveraging resources from more than 400 shopping malls nationwide. From pre‑expo online lead generation and group site visits during the show to post‑expo store‑placement services, this approach creates a never‑ending marketing ecosystem that transforms three days into 365 days of sustained engagement.
- A Comprehensive Portfolio of Premium Brands Across All Categories: Featuring three thematic pavilions—High-End Customization, System Windows & Doors, and Premium Building Materials—the expo covers twenty major sub‑categories, including custom furniture, ceramic tiles and slabs, smart appliances, paints, and soft furnishings. With over 500 premium brands making their debut or launching new collections, it has become a one-stop sourcing platform for large‑scale residential projects and luxury homes in China.
- Narrative‑Driven, Scenario‑Based Curation: Moving beyond traditional product displays, the expo adopts a curatorial theme centered on “30 Life Moments That Touch the Chinese Heart,” reimagining the exhibition landscape through emotional resonance. Led by a distinguished team of top designers and brand experts, this approach makes brand value both visible and deeply relatable.
- Closed‑Loop Conversion Across Both Online and Offline Channels: On the consumer side, a seamless “coupon‑check‑in‑redeem” consumption loop is coordinated with Red Star Macalline; on the dealer side, travel allowances, specialized training camps, and annual speaking engagements are provided, bringing together over 500 high‑quality dealers in a tightly curated network, ensuring that exhibitors can turn participation into immediate profitability and post‑show conversions.
- A Hub of Industry‑Wide Resources: The expo gathers thousands of leading designers, hundreds of real estate and interior‑fitout firms, and scores of industry media outlets, seamlessly connecting developers, design institutes, construction contractors, and distributors across the entire supply chain. Anchored in the economically vibrant Yangtze River Delta, it serves as both a major domestic base for building‑material production and the country’s largest consumer market.
- A Four‑Dimensional Value‑Driving Nexus: Concurrently, dozens of high‑level forums spanning “Design–Materials–Technology–Operations” are held, including the Villa Design Conference, the High‑End Customization G20 Summit, the System Windows & Doors Technology Symposium, and the China Home‑Furnishing New‑Traffic Forum, helping attendees gain deeper insights into industry trends and emerging opportunities.

Exhibition Review
The China International Building & Decoration Fair (Shanghai) 2025 and the inaugural Hongqiao Design Week were successfully held from March 24 to 26 at the Shanghai National Exhibition and Convention Center. Co-hosted by China Foreign Trade Guangzhou Exhibition Co., Ltd. and Red Star Macalline, the event spanned nearly 50,000 square meters, bringing together over 300 brand-name exhibitors. Over the three-day period, total attendance reached 42,632, with designers accounting for 28.92% of visitors. International visitor numbers increased by 75.39% year-on-year—both figures marking new highs in the past five editions.
The fair showcased three key highlights: First, the inaugural Hongqiao Design Week, featuring a “5+1” format that integrates trend exhibitions, summit forums, exhibition‑hopping check‑ins, ranking announcements, thematic campaigns, and a grand design gala. By engaging five major think tanks—design consultants, industry advisors, city partners, and others—the initiative deeply cultivated the “design + materials” value chain. Second, the fair fostered collaboration across eight industrial clusters, with enterprises from Nanxun (Zhejiang), Jiangshan (Zhejiang), Ningbo (Zhejiang), Haian (Jiangsu), Jiangyin (Jiangsu), Shangrao (Jiangxi), Linyi (Shandong), and Foshan (Guangdong) collectively presenting cutting-edge products and innovative technologies in areas such as solid‑wood custom furniture, wooden door customization, smart appliances, and all‑aluminum home furnishings. Third, exhibitors and organizers jointly promoted the “first‑release economy,” leveraging resources across exhibition halls, subway advertising, designer agencies, and industry media to deliver targeted support for new product launches.
In terms of exhibition layout, Hall 3 was dedicated to customized solutions, hosting brands such as Xin’gang, Yimu Liangpin, Baiyuan, and Furén, and showcasing a comprehensive range of whole‑home solutions—including panels, hardware, finishes, and machinery. Hall 4.1 served as the dedicated space for whole‑house and high‑end customizations, where brands like Weiluo, Shiyou, and Paiya made their collective debut. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Wood Industry Association, in partnership with seven leading brands—Furén Group, Zunmu Hui, Wannaimi, Yi Huang, and Ping’an Shu—presented a joint wood‑culture exhibition zone.
A rich array of concurrent events further enlivened the fair, including the RED Peak Design Power ICON Rankings Ceremony, the 2025 Design Trends Conference, Hongqiao Design Night, and the Yangtze River Delta Interior Design Trends Forum. Four special exhibitions—“Design Twelve: A Showcase of Beauty,” “Sensory Memory,” among others—captivated audiences, while hundreds of designers and MCN influencers formed viewing groups to embark on immersive design exploration tours.
