The Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, California, is one of the largest convention and exhibition complexes in the world. With a floor area of over 700,000 square feet (65,000 square meters), the convention center comprises six exhibition halls: A Hall, B Hall, and C Hall are located in the South Building, while D Hall and E Hall are situated in the Moscone North Building. The complex consists of three main halls spanning across three city blocks, occupying an area of 87 acres (35 hectares). It is located in the South Market neighborhood. The convention center was initially opened in 1981 and is named after a former mayor of San Francisco.

In March 2004, Powerlight Corporation installed a large solar power system on the roof of the center. This installation marked the first major step for San Francisco towards obtaining all its city energy from pollution-free sources. Spanning 60,000 square feet (5,600 square meters) with a capacity of 675 kilowatts, the solar array is one of the largest urban solar facilities in the country. The electricity generated by the solar system, combined with energy saved through efficiency measures, provides enough equivalent energy to power approximately 8,500 households.
