MWC Shanghai, the World Mobile Congress Profile
The Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWC SHANGHAI) is one of Asia’s most influential events in the mobile communications industry. GSMA has officially unveiled the overall exhibition plan for this year, which, in addition to continuing the well-received classic sections from previous editions, will also introduce six brand-new thematic zones for the first time, comprehensively showcasing the latest advancements and innovative applications in cutting-edge fields such as mobile AI, satellite communications, eSIM, and 6G.
Against the backdrop of artificial intelligence continuously reshaping the industrial ecosystem, the Mobile AI Innovation Pioneer Zone will make its debut. Supported jointly by China’s three major telecom operators and built upon the newly established Mobile AI Joint Working Group, this zone will showcase, through immersive scenarios, the full spectrum of capabilities across the mobile AI value chain. From chips and large-scale models to underlying computing platforms, as well as end products such as AI robots, smart vehicles, and smart glasses, it will comprehensively illustrate the development trajectory of mobile AI—from technological R&D to industrial implementation.
The Industry Digital Intelligence Future Zone focuses on the deep integration of digital technologies with the real economy, showcasing digital transformation initiatives across sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, automotive, financial technology, and green, low-carbon industries. Through dynamic demonstrations and immersive scenario experiences, it highlights how next-generation information technologies are driving industrial upgrading and innovative business models.
As a new growth driver for the global communications industry, satellite internet will also be showcased on a prominent platform at this year’s event. The newly established “Future Constellation” satellite industry zone will focus on building an integrated space–ground communication network, bringing together satellite operators, equipment manufacturers, and solution providers to jointly explore new opportunities in the convergence of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks. Companies such as Asia-Pacific Satellite Broadband Communications, China Information and Communication Technology Group, Time & Space DaoYu, and Iridium will all present their innovative achievements.
Meanwhile, the Urban Innovation Pavilion will showcase global achievements in smart city development, highlighting how connectivity technologies are driving urban growth through innovative case studies in areas such as digital governance, intelligent transportation, digital payments, and urban administration. In particular, the Beijing Innovation Solutions Zone will bring together 16 participating companies, while Shanghai’s Pudong New Area will also establish its own dedicated exhibition space.
As an important frontier of future communication technologies, the 6G Pavilion will be another major highlight of this year’s event. The pavilion will systematically showcase China’s progress in 6G research and development, key technological breakthroughs, and industrial ecosystem initiatives, presenting the latest achievements of China’s 6G evolution to the global community ahead of the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC‑27).
In recent years, the rapidly advancing eSIM technology will also be showcased in its own dedicated exhibition space. The eSIM Pavilion will span the entire industry value chain—from telecom operators and chip manufacturers to module suppliers and platform service providers—highlighting the latest products and solutions. As the Internet of Things, smart terminals, and connected-car markets continue to expand, eSIM is emerging as a key technological enabler driving the global upgrade of connectivity capabilities. According to GSMA Intelligence, by 2030, the number of IoT connections operating on licensed spectrum is projected to reach 5.3 billion, doubling from 2022 levels.
From mobile AI to satellite internet, from smart cities to 6G networks, and from digital industry upgrades to global ecological collaboration, MWC SHANGHAI will not only showcase the cutting-edge achievements of the connectivity industry but also serve as a vital platform for observing emerging technology trends and the evolution of the global digital economy. A major technological event that brings together innovation, collaboration, and future opportunities is set to open in Shanghai.
