Exhibition Review
From July 15 to 17, 2006, the ninth Global Licensing Expo—Shanghai (LEC) was held as scheduled in Halls 3 and 4.1 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Over the course of three days, the event concluded successfully amid intensive industry exchanges and vibrant business matchmaking, delivering an impressive performance: the exhibition space expanded to 53,000 square meters, up from 50,000 square meters in 2025; more than 420 high-quality domestic and international exhibitors showcased over 2,000 global IPs, spanning diverse sectors including animation, film and television, gaming, cultural heritage, and trendy cultural‑creative products. The show attracted approximately 70,000 professional visitors, once again underscoring the robust vitality of China’s licensing market and LEC’s standing as a leading IP‑licensing trade platform in Asia.
Top-tier IPs Take Center Stage, with a Fully Upgraded International PresenceThis year’s edition brought together industry leaders such as Universal, Alibaba Fish, Tencent Video, Alpha Group, Yongsheng Animation, Bilibili, New Creative Media, NetEase Games, Game for Peace, and IMG Licensing, with hundreds of newly launched original IPs making their debut on site. The international participation was comprehensively enhanced, featuring joint pavilions from Korea’s KOCCA and Macao’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, among other regional delegations, pooling premium global creative resources and facilitating cross‑border IP collaboration. Concurrently, the inaugural Shanghai Cultural‑Creative Ecosystem Exhibition extended its scope from content licensing to product development, drawing participation from leading cultural‑creative manufacturers including M&G, 52TOYS, Wuliu Culture, iFLYTEK, and Harbin Polarland, thereby completing the full value chain of IP development, production, and distribution and establishing a more comprehensive commercial closed loop for the licensing industry.
Industry Summits and Prestigious Awards Set the Standard for the Licensing YearDuring the event, more than 30 industry summits, IP‑cultural‑creative integration forums, and trend‑sharing sessions were held, in collaboration with industry bodies such as Leibao and IP Jiao Yan She, offering multi‑faceted insights into current industry hotspots and forecasting future development trajectories. The 2026 China Licensing Industry Awards Ceremony took place in Hall 4.1, where 15 annual awards were selected from over 450 entries, setting a benchmark for the licensing sector. In parallel, numerous buyer‑seller matchmaking events targeting specific product categories—including toys, food, maternal and infant products, and apparel—were organized, enabling one‑on‑one discussions between more than a hundred brand buyers and IP holders, with several cooperation agreements tentatively finalized on site.
A vibrant business atmosphere and overwhelming praise from both visitors and exhibitorsOver the three-day event, exhibition halls were bustling with crowds at every booth, and negotiation areas remained fully occupied. IP rights holders, brand manufacturers, and channel buyers flocked to engage in face-to-face discussions, sustaining a high level of enthusiasm from opening to closing. Nearly 60 sets of IP‑themed mascots formed a parade that wound through the exhibition spaces, drawing spectators to stop, take photos, and share their experiences online. A newly designed “Football Fun Fuel Station” recreated the World Cup spirit, allowing attendees to enjoy interactive football games on an artificial turf field while checking in to collect exclusive gifts. Some exhibitors remarked that all the samples they brought were claimed on the very first day, while others admitted they had planned to spend only half a day but ended up staying for the entire duration. Meanwhile, the head of an overseas delegation participating for the first time described their experience as “beyond expectations.” These genuine responses represent the most valuable echoes of the three‑day event.
